    1 Yes! CCU class contributes to my language skills especially reading and writing skills.Studying a culture which differs in many aspects with my own culture is very interesting and challenging. This lesson not only enrich my knowledge about America but also motivated me to find out more from some source by reading the sources of America where I can compare and contrast with the Indonesian state and learn how to write a good grammar in English writing and how to make a good paragraph or essay. This lesson to my knowledge will be broader American culture. This is very different from Indonesia which full of restrictions or regulations usually called either from local or regional government itself, which if violated rules on the offender shall be liable in accordance with the regulations
    but, of course, all that positive and negative consequences for the country itself. For example, while American country is a country that is free in this that they are not bound by rules, such as Indonesia. The country is known worldwide as in developed countries, while Indonesia is still a developing country and tell the world recognize a country that has many debts, and also includes the world’s poorest countries.

    2 CCU class contributed most to my writing skills. CCU class is a class which learns about American with culture in Indonesia. I was a student was asked to be active with a lot of reading from various sources or existing media, such as various kinds of good books from the library, the books in the bookstore, browsing the Internet, and even exchange opinions to fellow students who had lived in America. Thus, the ability to contribute greatly in learning this lesson is to read, then the knowledge that has been read in various sources and I write in a paragraph or essay writing skills are commonly called.

    3 Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture. Each class meeting at CCU I always get new knowledge about American culture. For example, every meeting we have presentation from Mr. Parlin after that we were given the task and put in a blog at http://www.parlindunganpardede.wordpress.com which questions that has made us look for more resources about America that we must increase our knowledge even more. American culture, I know that they embrace individual freedom of doing things is not limited by regulations. It is inversely proportional to the state of Indonesia which has boundaries or rules in doing something good from the side of religion, culture, the environment is based on Pancasila and 1945 Constitution.

    4 Yes! CCU class helps me raise awareness about my own culture. This is because each lesson we will learn about the cultural comparison between the United States and Indonesia. By using our comparative study of this culture, I became motivated to learn more and more the culture of Indonesia. For example, the equality of men and women should have the same status level. Many wonderful women who have a better mindset in the appeal to the leaders of men. Women also can be leaders and make the people prosperous. However it is very regrettable in Indonesia on women leaders so that in the view of one eye.
    The second example is the equality of the people who have drawbacks such as Abdurrahman Wahid also deserves to be leaders. Although he has a physical shortage but he thought patterns to create a prosperous society is not inferior to the former president who has no physical shortage. In contrast to our present president is just a sales appointment only.

    5 Yes! CCU class changes my perception towards American culture. I took samples of individual liberty in American society to do something that is not limited to the regulation because America is a country that embraces individual freedom.
    It is inversely proportional to our country is full of rules or boundaries, limitations in doing anything that complies with the Pancasila and 1945 UD. However, although the American nation is a country that adopts freedom, America is a country well advanced in the field of economics, technology, etc.
    The Government should therefore follow the procedures of the American nation to make the community of smart, creative, and could count on the assistance of their own country or in another country.

    6 If I become an English teacher after graduating from FKIP-UKI, I think what I am learning in CCU class contribute to that profession.
    As my English teacher not only mastered the language but also knowledge about the background and lifestyle of Americans who also then I can share with students my students. For example, by providing an understanding of their culture even though Americans embrace American freedom also embraces values such as individual freedom, equal opportunities, material wealth, self reliance, competition, hard work, self improvement, self-discipline, volunteerism, humanitarianism, free spirit, inventiveness, egalitarianism, and aggressiveness.
    These values are certainly making the country a developed in America country such as economics, technology, etc.

    7 I think what I am learning in CCU class will help me in communicating with Americans because when I meet American people I can talk and discuss something to them about difference culture American and Indonesia. With this class we realize CCU American lifestyle, such as lifestyle Uphold the values of individual freedom means they rarely can be arranged. They can do what they want and sometimes even collide with the interests of others. However, gradually some of them begin to appreciate the benefits of others. To obtain individual freedom, America must be the first independent, especially financially independent. So, It has become a tradition when the children were ages 9 annual American has worked as a newspaper deliveryman, or helping a neighbor tile roof that leaked. Do mengkasihani them because they do not want to be pitied. Work they do at an early age does not mean they are poor, but an attempt to get the ‘independence’ and ‘individual freedom’ them.

    8 If one day I have the opportunity to go to America, I think the subject of CCU will make it easier for me to live in the USA. That’s because in addition we know their language and also we already know the background or their lifestyle is inversely proportional to Indonesia based on Pancasila and 1945 Constitution. So we are not surprised when he saw their lifestyle that is free because we already understand how their way of life. If I got a job there I would definitely approach to the employer until the boss for the advancement of the company and improve the quality of my work so that the name of Indonesia will be known in foreign countries and in admitted quality.

    1.Yes , CCU class contributes to my language. Studying a culture which differs in many aspect with my own culture is interesting and challenging. The subject does not only enrich my knowledge about americans but also provides me opportunities to develop my language skill, especially speaking and writting. Ccu class have activities study group to disscuss about lesson it, and of course there is require active speaking to give an opinion about lesson it in class and every week is given assignments to post answer in the “cyber class”, and it helps give me forces to boost my writting skills, and sometimes Mr palin will give reply about correct grammar in writting or give opinion more idea.

    2.CCU class contribute most to my writting and reading skills. Before join this class I have no clear of how to write an accadenic esssay because every week I always get assignment to write, so little bit little I can know how to write a good essay and in this lesson is expected so that to read lot of books and know lot of information from browsing the internet or read books about american culture in the library.

    3.Yes, CCU class helps me raise my awarness about American Culture because with learning CCU , I become know about culture , belief and american values. I can also compare my own culture with american culture. For example built my awareness about american culture with watching their culture and watching performances American culture

With Cross Cultural Understanding I know about all the things from America, such as : art, literature, music, architecture, history, religion, and traditions. The important knowledge from the CCU are American values, attitudes, and cultural patterns. CCU class improve my knowledge about America, and change my perceptions about America.

    CCU class contribute most to my reading skills. Before joining in this class, I just have a little knowledge about America, and after joining in the CCU class, I can improve the knowledge of America. CCU class change my perception about America and I think from the CCU class I can get the lesson from the American value.
    3. Yes, because the CCU class, the people can improve their knowledge about the American value, and change their perceptions. For example : when the Indonesians want to immigrate to America to get the great work/job, but in the other hand very few Americans choose to emigrate to another country.

    The Indonesian can get the lesson from American. Where the American believes that people should hold jobs and not live off welfare payments from the government.
    For example : Indonesia people always hope to has a job in the government because they think, They can get the big salary. I think, from American value, Indonesia can take a lesson from this habit.

    1. Yes, CCU class contributes to any of my language skill. By study CCU, I am not only study about American culture, but also develop my language skill. Study about CCU make me can study about writing too, because our lecture always support us to fill our idea or our opinion in the writing. It is make me more study how to make a good written.
    2. CCU class contributed most to my writing skills. We are really can apply the lesson of writing in the last semester in this class, and in this class we are helped to make a good written in the form of essay or paragraph. We can learn to express our opinion about the lesson.
    3. Yes, CCU class helps me raise awareness about American culture. Before I study about CCU, I never know what the culture of American is. It is interesting when I study about their value and belief; it show how the American trained stand alone since they young and then it make the American have a good value in herself, such as competition, hard work, self improvement, self discipline, etc.
    4. Yes, CCU class helps me raise awareness about my own culture. CCU helps me to more see about my culture. I can compare the American culture with the Indonesian culture. For the American talking about age and religion is too taboo, so if we talking with them, we must avoid talking about it. Because for them, religion is only about themselves and God.

For examples, study about CCU is learning about their soul of competition, hard work, self-discipline, etc. So, if we live in there, we can survive when we face life of their competition.     Competition in our country different from America, if we seen Indonesia hasn’t good competition because in Indonesia if we have much money we can win from the competition whereas American they has good competition while if they strong they can win and success. As develop country Indonesia should like America while Indonesia can do competition if they want to success.
    The last importance is hard work. Hard work has been both necessary and rewarding for most American throughout their history. Because of this, they came to see material profession as the natural reward for their hard work. Most Americans, however, still believe in the value of hard work. Most believe that people should hold jobs and not live off welfare payments from the government. There have been many efforts to reform the welfare system so that people would not become dependent on welfare and stop looking for jobs to support themselves. In daily life American hasn’t time for holiday they always work because they believe if they work they can success.
    If we see Indonesia we feel if Indonesia lagged far from American. Indonesia very like if in their company or school they have free day. Moreover Indonesian also likes to relax than work. In our country if we want like American we should hard work because if we hard work we can get everything we need maybe if our country want develop we can start from our self because if we success from hard work other people also will follow we to hard work.

We can look from their values and belief they has three important values and belief like, freedom, competition, and hard work. In the class CCU, I was assigned to discuss in groups and I also needed to make a weekly task in the form of an essay or a paragraph that must be posted in the “Cyber Classroom”. It made me know the correct way to write an essay. And hope the future can be better at writing essays.

However, after attending classes at CCU. The culture is very different from Indonesia. Therefore, I try to differ it one by one, what the strength and what the weakness are from both culture. The most important thing from this subject is the meeting is not only in the classroom, we can also study and get material from blog. Through this way, I can improve my language skills both in real and cyber world.

    2. I think CCU class contributed most of my writing skill. With the material about culture, it makes me to write everything in my mind to complete some exercises in the book and also in the blog. Almost all of the exercises are formed single paragraph or an essay, so I should focus in my writing skill to finish the exercises. Also in this mid-term test, I should finish it by writing an essay. I think the essay is complicated, but I try to write it well.

  27. Three More Important of American Values and Beliefs to emulate

In addition, the CCU class really helps me to develop my language skills, especially speaking and writing skills. Discussions within the group provides an opportunity for me and students to discuss and exchange opinions and find new ideas that can add to the knowledge of students. The tasks to be posted on each week to help my skills in writing, how the good technique to write, especially for me who are still in the Writing II class.

    CCU class contributed most to my writing skills. In CCU class, the students are in demand to be able to write an essay with brilliant ideas. I search a lot of these topic by using internet.

    Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture.
    Before studying the CCU, I only know about freedom as American Culture. Americans are free to do anything without government control, religion. I take an example of freedom for religion. Many Americans who does not adhere to religion (infidels) and they feel enjoy with indifference. In Indonesia was established in the law on the freedom to believe and live their faith. However, if not embrace religion (pagans) that can cause a negative perspective because Indonesia is the eastern culture which is different with western culture.

I’m proud of my own culture.

    Yes. CCU class contribute to my profession as an English teacher after graduating from FKIP – UKI. I want to create a new learning method from utilize what I have learned in CCU class. For example, I will teach my students about our own culture such as between Bataknese and Javanese. In my opinion, it is better if the first one to know and learn about the culture before we learn each culture. We must appreciate and preserve our own culture. After that, it is good to learn about each culture.

I felt happy to talk with him because I’ve known how to communicate with him through what I learned at CCU class.

CCU class is very useful and enrich my knowledge about America, so if one day I have the opportunity to go there I ready and able to adapt to in America.

Weekly tasks that will be posted in the “virtual classroom” forced me to improve my writing skills, enhance creativity and increase vocabulary.

    1. Yes. CCU class contribute to my languange skill. Studying culture, especially Amrican culturel is quite interesting to me. I can learn many things through this lesson and could be a reflection and or a comparison of Indonesian cuture. This subject develop my knowledge skill especially in reading and writing. I think this subject ask us to have more practise in reading. To be connected with the lecturer before or after the class, students need to read a lot so that they could follow the lesson well. Beside it, because this interest to me, I am excited to read any culture of American. The more having practise it help to get the topic easily. Moreover, through this subject also help me to develop my writing, because students of CCU have to posted or make comment about the topic what the students have learned.
    2. Writing . This lesson i think need to have more in writing time. Joining this cass train me much in writing. Every week we need to read the topic that will discuss and of course have to comment it or make some opinion about what we have learned. Thus, in posting the comment make me have to try hardly day by day how to write paragraph even essay in a good written.

In general I can understand when people from different cultures find new approaches to old problems creating solutions by combining cultural perspectives and examining the problem at hand from each other’s differing cultural perspectives. It also make my writing and reading skills better than before. On CCU class, I almost hava a discussion with my friends. I think it’s fun.

    2. Yes, CCU class contributed most to my writing skills. Before joining this class, I don’t like academic essay. But now, I always hava a discussion in the class with my friends. In this class, the students must be independent. The students must do the exercises that given by our lecturer on his blog, and it make me more creative and give me more knowledge to do his exercises.. And in this class, we required to write our ideas in a single paragraph or essays.

United States is a diverse nation, it is home to numerous organization and social groups and individuals may derive their group affiliated identity from a variety of sources. Despite certain consistent ideological principles (e.g. individualism, egalitarianism, and faith in freedom and democracy), American culture has a variety of expressions due to its geographical scale and demographic diversity.

    4. Yes, by learning the CCU I became curious about the values and culture in Indonesia. Thus I learned the values and culture anything that is in Indonesia but not owned by another country.
    5. No, because before I learned in the CCU Class I already knew some of the values and culture in America, such as freedom, privacy and etc.. In the CCU Class I can go deeper in the values and culture in America.
    6. Yes, if I had graduated from the FKIP and became a teacher, I will also teach about Cross Culture Understanding to my students later. So they too can understand about the cultures that exist in other states.
    7. yes, because I already knew a lot of the CCU about culture in America, such as how to greet, talk, socialize and etc. So I do not experience distress when communicating with Americans.

Besides the subject is exciting for me, in this subject I can developed my reading skills when I read the book that explain about the American culture. Moreover, in this subject I also can evolving my speaking skills in the part of discussion group that require us to speak active English.
    2. The most contributed skills that I get in CCU class is my reading skills. With joined CCU class I got that with reading the CCU books that I have now I get more interested to read an English book. In that book I found that many words or term that I ever know before. So, I can enrich my vocabulary number besides I got knowledge about the American life and culture that I think is interesting to be learned.
    3. YES ! In CCU class I have raised my awareness about American culture. Actually, before I get this subject I just can learned all about culture of Americans from movie or books that I ever watch read. But now I can get more references to learn about it from CCU class. An explanation that lecture gives to us, references book, or sharing knowledge with friends in class can added my knowledge about the American culture.

Thus, CCU class does not change my perception toward the culture that American have.
    6. YES ! I think the lesson that I have learned in CCU class can contribute in teacher profession after I have graduated. For example, someday if I become an English teacher that have some students that come or descent of American I think we can add our teaching method with some culture which come from America in our class. Like make themselves to be more independent and built their self reliance to understand our subject. Thus, we can give them a condition class that near with their culture and we have more easily ways to teaches them.
    7. Yes ! Is it clear that what I have been learned in CCU class will help me when communicating with Americans. With all lesson that I have learned in CCU class I have more knowledge about all things that connected with Americans exactly a manner when they talk with other people. For example, when Americans talk each other they like to see straight in the eyes of people that talking to him or her. Thus, someday when I have a conversation with an Americans I will like to do that.
    8. Yes ! Definitely all lesson that I would have learned in CCU class will make me easier to live in USA, if one day I have opportunity to go there. In CCU class I have learned about the culture of Americans. More or less I have know about the way of life or habit that they like to do in society. For instance, the Americans are the people that not like to spend their time to the vain things. They prefer to work along day than rest just for a while, so I have to make adjustment with their culture even though in my own culture that is one thing that difficult to do.

In addition, learn about American culture, that is knows as a super power country and learn the key of their success is an opportunities for me. This learn gives me the motivation or teach me about life. In addition to experience, this lesson also adds expertise in the field of my speaking and my writing. Each meeting there is discussion that trains my ability to speak more and more about the cultural of American and to compare it to our culture and naturally it increased my vocabulary.
    2. CCU class contributed most to my writing skills. Each week after class CCU, there is an assignment which must be done. The assignment is presented in the form of paragraph and essay. Previously, I did not know much about how to write paragraphs and essays as well. But, the tricks of writing or aspect that we need to answer the tags is attached in blog. It is a challenge for me to be diligent in reading tricks that are presented on the blog and it becomes the source of my skill in writing.
    3. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture especially the way of looking the another person. They believe that all people are created equal and that all should have an equal-opportunity to succeed and it is seen as having a religious basis. Whereas, if judging from their lifestyle that is free both in the association, dressed, and in speaking against to the culture concerned with others. Although their culture is not polite according our culture but they are civilizing religion in their life.
    4. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about my own culture that the culture of each place or person is different. For example, about the tattoo. Tattoo for the Dayaks Borneo is a culture that shows the position in the tribe. The more tattoo it means a higher position in the tribe. While in Jakarta, people who have tattoo are seen as ugly and punk person. The more tattoos that means getting naughty. Another example is the way of worship that seems to matter is influenced by culture. Culture quite worship as the proper way to the HKBP church while in Tiberias festive atmosphere is the right way to praise the Lord.
    5. Yes! CCU class changes my perception towards American culture. At first, I looked ugly to American culture. Especially the nature of their freedom that leads to selfish character and not concerned with religion. After studying the CCU, my perception changes that the culture-free which they do is the responsible freedom. They really put their freedom in major but they balanced it with other culture, for example to egalitarian culture or culture to not interfere with each other. Moreover they complete each other.
    6. Yes! I think that the learning in CCU class contribute to my profession as a teacher. CCU teaches us about the culture of other country in daily and also their culture in learning. As teacher I need to know the culture of my students. Maybe, my students come from other tribe or foreign country so I must understand about their culture. For example, a foreign student talk dirty, I can not to scold her because it’s not prohibited in their culture, or a girl student is dressed sexy, I do not have to force him to change her style because the sexy dress is familiar in their country. CCU helped me to become a professional teacher, who is able to adapt to my students that from different cultures.
    7. Yes, I think CCU class will help me in communicating with American. CCU class gives me the knowledge about culture and the way Americans speak and I can better appreciate the differences and habits of others. For example in the introduction to American, most Americans do not like when asked about their age, status, religion and politics. So, we can avoid miss communication and communication will be smooth and they will regard us as brothers.
    8. Yes, by learning the CCU, we can know about the culture and lifestyle in America. It makes easier for us to get along and adapt to the culture in America. Examples about American visit culture, if you want to visit someone, you must make an appointment in advance one week earlier. This applies for a friend or parents. Posting comments on the “cyber class” forces me to upgrade my writing skill. Discussing activities are the most influential things to sharpen my speaking skill.

    2. This subject contributes most to my writing skill. Because, in weekly assignments, the students are required post their ideas in a paragraph or an essay to know how far they understand the topic which they have learned in the class. The assignments make the students are accustomed to write their own ideas. So, their writing skills are increased and they have known more about how to write an academic essay.

    3. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture. Because, from CCU lesson, I have known that American has so many good values and beliefs which is not owned by other countries. For instance, Americans believe that inventiveness is very important. They try to invent anything to support and help human’s life. Their inventions are well known all over the world.

    4. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about my own culture. Because, I become understand more about the cultural differences between the America’s culture and Indonesia’s culture. If Indonesia is rich in culture because it has hundreds of tribes, America is rich in culture because its people are from various countries in the world. By comparing both cultures, Indonesian and American, I also have more knowledge about my own culture that is I never know before. For example, I have known that are so many languages, values, and religious activities from each tribe which enrich my own culture.

    5. Yes! Before I joined CCU class, I had a bad perception about American culture because their culture is different with my own culture. After I learned the CCU, I understood that even though their culture is different from my culture, it did not mean their culture was bad. Their culture was still had positive values from their perspective. For example, in the past, I thought that their culture liberates each person to do what they want was something bad. And I also thought, they had no boundaries or norms. Apparently I was wrong; their freedom was still restricted by themselves. Person’s freedom should not interfere with the others freedom.

    6. Yes! What I have learned in CCU will contribute to my profession as an English teacher. Because I have known about the culture, behavior, social life, and the other things which relate to Americans. For example, I will be more able to share my knowledge to my students about American culture later. My sharing will enrich their knowledge and motivate them to build our country will be able to become a developed country, like America. I also train to write essays in CCU class, it can be a good asset to be a potential teacher. Written assignment gives me the opportunity to improve my writing skill, it allows me to pay attention to the good grammatical sentences which is very important in writing skill. In order to understand and answer the given assignment in CCU class, I have to skimming and scanning through the pages and this contributes to my reading skill. Having the dialog in the classroom with the lecturer or in the group, help me to improve my speaking skill.
    2. (D)Writing! According to my recent observation, CCU class contributes most to my writing skill. As a CCU student, I am required to write my ideas about the cultures in a single paragraph or essay. This is quite hard to me because I have no clear ideas about writing an essay or paragraph. As a consequence of attending CCU class, I have to keep practicing my writing skill and learn more how to write a good essay and paragraph.
    3. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture. In CCU class, I learn about the American cultures which are very useful for me. Interactions between individuals with different cross-cultural backgrounds come with a large scope of challenges and potential risks which need to be addressed. Cross-cultural Awareness will enhance my cross-cultural skills and a raised awareness of possible cultural issues I may face if I working on a cross-cultural team, especially with the American. My cross-cultural awareness competences will help me to work, communicate and interact more effectively, giving them a better chance to reach their targets and achieve success.
    American cultures are different with the Indonesian cultures. For Example, the American like to see in the eyes while talking with somebody, but for Indonesian, it is considered rude to see in the eyes while talking with somebody. Besides that, the American like to speak straight to the point, while Indonesia like to go around first before come to the point. This is not a problem for people who have cross cultural awareness, but for people who have no cross cultural awareness; this can lead to a problem. So, it is good for me to attend CCU class.
    4. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about my own culture. Besides learn about the view of other cultures and become aware of their frame of reference, CCU class also serves as a mirror through which I obtain an image of my own culture. It seems inevitable that the study of other cultures also encompasses the study of my own culture. For example, in a hot day, I may like to walk around wearing BIKINI like what westerns usually do. Before do that, there must be a question for me” is this suitable for me? Or “is this appropriate to my culture?” of course this is not appropriate to my culture and I aware of it.
    5. Yes! I used to think that American is not good because they are individualism, egoism, rough, and rug. Furthermore, the way they wear clothes and they freedom in all things including free sex are impolite and disgusting, but after I attended CCU class and learn about their cultures, I understand. For example, western couple likes to express their love by kissing and hugging each other in the public area and for the Indonesian this seems impolite. We never do such things in public area, but that is their cultures and we should be annoyed by that. So it is good to attend the CCU class because if I have cross cultural competences, I will be able to avoid the misunderstanding between cultures.
    6. Yes! Of course what I have learned in CCU class contribute to my profession as an English teacher. As we know that learning is also a culture. Students nowadays are very smart. They are very inquisitive about a lot of thing. With the globalization era, many foreigners come to our country. They come with the cultures which are different from our cultures. This may raise the question from the students who are still lack of cross cultural competences. For example, when students go to the beach with a lot of tourists wearing bikini or underwear, they are curious why these people like to wear opened-clothes and classroom discussion is a source where they can find the answer to their question. So as a teacher who has learned cross cultural understanding, we should be able to explain it.

The discussion activities in class is going to make me active in speaking skill, how to give some ideas based on my mine, how to share the opinion between the other. Almost the other countries are trying to get this culture – “BATIK”, they do like that to improve their countries especially about the unique culture. So, in Indonesia every people should wear “BATIK” in every Friday that to show one of the characteristics of Indonesian people.

By CCU class I know all about American both of culture and values. In the other hand I can improve my language skills they are reading, writing, speaking and listening. My lecturer give us the book “American Ways” where that book can give me information all about American. So I can learn reading skills by that book.
    CCU class can improve my skills in writing because I learn how to make Essay. After CCU class my lecturer always give us assigment in his blog to comment the material that has been presented by him in Essay.
    In CCU class, we often make a group to discuss the material that has been presented by our lecturer so I learn how to speak English in Mr.Parlin Pardede’s class.
    Besides presentations, our lecturer also play video about American culture an values and it also improve my skills is listening.

After CCU class my lecturer always give us assigment in his blog to comment the material that has been presented by him in Essay. I can try to learn how to make Essay. And it so difficult because make an essay not like make a paragraph. But it is become a new thing for me to learn in making essay. And I am happy to make it.

After several months we’re studied about the culture and history of America at CCU class, I became more interested in reading books which is used in class CCU and others related books to American culture and history. From those books we will know more clearly about the culture and habitual of American society. Thus, I can improve and develop my reading skill with interesting topics which is provided in the CCU class.

    3. In the past time, I just know the American culture from the films I’ve ever seen. But in the CCU class I know more about the culture and American society. CCU classes provide a major influence for my knowledge about the culture of America. For example, our lecturer said to us is the America does not have any religious holidays. Compared with Indonesia which has many religious holidays. Thus, CCU class help me to raise awareness to hard working as well as the American people do.

In CCU class, I learned about American culture but I did not forget my own culture. Class of CCU required thinking critically and being able to pour all my opinions with group discussions or ask the lecturer, thus making my practice to get used to speaking in the English language. Tasks assigned by lecturer very beneficial to train the English language proficiency in written form or essays written by the blog, so I should really pay attention to my grammar and vocabulary knowledge can also add new-vocabulary.

    a) Listening: My ability in Listening getting trained to listen to any explanation from my lecturers who speak the English language, because sometimes I need some time to listen to someone who speaks English so I understood what was being said by that person.
    b) Speaking: In Speaking I highly trained in the CCU class, talk or discussion to discuss the topic with friends and lecturer, to get accustomed to speaking in English.
    c) Reading: Reading literature in English is the hardest thing for me, because in addition to reading I also have to understand the content of the reading is coupled with the vocabulary that I don’t know. But CCU requires me to read and understand it so that my knowledge increases.
    d) Writing: My ability to write still very common, but through the CCU I can train through writing an essay on the blog, so my writing skills could better.

    1. Yes! CCU class contributes to my language skills. Studying about other culture that is different with my own culture is very interesting and exciting. Study CCU improves my knowledge about Americans and their culture. Study CCU also improves my English skills like reading, writing, listening, and speaking. In the class my lecturer always teaches us by presentation. Then, he asks us according to the presentation that he had presented. In this case, I improve my skills in Listening and speaking. My lecturer also gives us assignment on his blog. In this case, I improve my skill in reading and writing. So, CCU class contributes my skills in English.
    2. CCU class contributed most to my writing skills. Before joining this class, I had taught by Mr. Parlin who is also teaches me in this CCU class. When I’m in semester 4, Mr. Parlin taught me Basic Science class. In that semester, he also gave assignment for us to make an essay. But, in this semester, especially in CCU class, he always gives us assignment, especially in write an essay. So, I think CCU class contributed most to my writing skills.
    3. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture. For example, in America, almost people there are hard worker. People there able to work approximate 40 hours per week. This is very different with my own culture. Almost all people in my own culture are lazy, especially lazy to work. This is American culture that I have to give more awareness. So, CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture.
    4. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about my own culture. For example, in my own culture, it is very not polite if we address older people by call his or her name. But, in American culture it does not matter if we address older people by call his or her name. This is just one kind of my own culture that I have to give more awareness. There is other my own culture that I have to give more awareness. But, I just want to give one example. So, CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture.
    5. CCU class changes my perception towards American culture. Before studying CCU class, I have known some perceptions of American culture. But, after I studying CCU class, I get more knowledge or perceptions towards American culture. Example, before studying CCU class, I do not know that American people capable to work 40 hours per week. I know that American people are hard worker, but I never think that American people have a capability to work that hard. So, CCU class changes my perception towards American culture.
    6. I think what I’m learning in CCU class contribute to my profession as a teacher is I have a capable to teach my students about American culture and tell to them the positive and the negative of American culture.
    7. I think what I have learned in CCU class will help me in communicating with Americans. Because, approximately I have known about American culture. So, it will help me in communicating with Americans. Example, if there is American people come to UKI, I can share to him or her about their culture which is maybe some people do not know about their culture. So, I think what I have learned in CCU class will help me in communicating with Americans.
    8. I think the subject of Cross Cultural Understanding will make me easier to live in the USA. Because, approximately I have known about American culture after studying CCU class. So, if I live there, I’m not be clumsy to the American culture anymore. Because, I have known about American culture after studying CCU class.

  69. Part B.

    1. Yes, it does. CCU contributes my language, especially for my writing and reading.
    This CCU class stimulate me to read more and more about cultures, where by this subject, unconsciously my vocabulary has increased, not only vocabulary but also i have got much knowledge about cultures from this CCU class, especially America culture. This subject also improve my writing skill, that is by the task that has given for CCU class. It stimulates me to practice in writing my idea.

    2. Reading, because by this subject, I have to learn much the other countries culture especially, American culture. For example, I can know much more about American values and beliefs, e.g. self-discipline, volunteerism, and competition through reading. It is automatically can make my knowledge become wide by reading can also make my vocabulary increase. Furthermore, by reading their culture, I can also change my mindset. I can emulate the way they think, I got a lot of knowledge by reading.

    3. Yes, it does. By this subject, I have known much more about American cultures.
    For example: The way their thinking about their future and self-discipline.
    I admit that American is important figure for Indonesia and also for other countries. Because there are many things that they have given proof to the world that America is the most successful country. The basic factor for them is cultures. They are hard-working, self-reliance and freedom. Culture has made them successful. We must not be shame to emulate their culture.

    4. Yes, it does. American cultures bring me to realize that their values and beliefs are important for me to improve my self. For example: I can control my self to manage my time where I am here just alone or far from my family. By knowing American culture, stimulate me to be self-reliance, be a hard-working and be volunteerism. I have just realized that the fact America is good figure for me to make my future will be better

    5. Yes, it does. Before I learn this subject, I thought if American culture is not good, as most people call it “west culture”, as they know that west culture is not good to emulate it. But the fact, America has many values and beliefs that important for us to emulate such as competition, self-discipline, hard-working, volunteerism, freedom and etc. It helps my culture to be better than yesterday. I believe that by American culture, I have changed my mindset. For example, now I do hard-working to get my target.

    6. Yes, by this subject I can know the way to manage my time, the way to manage my mindset Where American has over confident to reach a goal. I really thank to Mr.parlin that has taught me about CCU. I get many inspirations from this subject. For example, if I be a teacher someday, I will teach to my students to be self-reliance, hard-working, self-discipline, and volunteerism. I will give them opportunity in argued.

    7. Yes, of course. Because by studying this subject (CCU) I can know a lot of their culture, so it’s very easy for me to adapt and to make a relation with them. Moreover, I can also understand the way they communicate or speak. This subject very helps me easier to adapt with them, so there is no misunderstanding in communication with them.

    8. Yes, I agree with that. Because by knowing a lot of knowledge about American culture, it makes easier to me if someday I come to America and stay there. There is no doubt for me to communicate well with them and it will be easier for me to adapt with them. There is no misunderstanding in communication between me and them.

  70. PART II: Perception and Reflection

    1. Yes, it does. CCU class gives me language skills. Studying a culture which differs in many aspects with my own culture is interesting. The subject does not only enrich my knowledge about Americans but also provides me opportunities to develop my language skills, especially speaking and writing. The discussion activities, especially those held in groups, require active speaking. Moreover enrich my knowledge about culture and my language skill, especially reading can also increase my vocabulary.

    2. Reading. CCU class the most contributed for me is Reading skill and I can also increase my vocabulary, it also provides me opportunities to develop my language skill, especially reading. Because studying cultural is very interesting for me. Because I can get more about culture, especially America culture. There are many positive things that I have got by reading for example the way they do competition with each other. By reading I can improve my mindset through America culture because I do respond positive their culture.

    3. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture awareness in America is a thing of the past. There are so many different cultures and so little understanding in America that we are just one big melting pot, whether we like it or not. Example of awareness about American culture is this is why America is going through the social and economical changes we are today, we are encouraged to have the ability to overlook certain aspects of culture.

    4. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about my own culture. There are many things that I have to learn from America culture. Before I learned CCU, I have not known about culture of America. But now, I get a lot of knowledge about their culture and I need to improve my culture to be better. The important things that i have to change are my self-disciplines, self-reliance, and hard-working. I’ve just realized that this is very important for me to make my future will be successful.

    5. Yes! CCU class changed my perception of American culture. American migrant’s tough, independent, so one wants to be successful must work hard to get satisfactory results. For example, want to get good grades or satisfactory must learn and keep working hard. Before I learned CCU, I thought that America culture was not good for me to learn and to emulate, but the fact I was wrong. For example, though that they did not practice their religion, but I was wrong, the fact America is religious peoples.

    6. Yes! Because teachers also need to know about the CCU primarily about American countries. And the U.S. also makes the motivation for teachers. For example, Americans have always worked hard and they believe that people should have jobs. Teachers teach the kids a hard worker as well as children with full responsibility and patience and teacher also get motivation by studying CCU class that is motivation to make students will be a self-reliance and hard-working.

    7. Yes, of course! Because, if we have learned and understood this subject (CCU). It would make me easier to communicate with Americans, because I have got a lot of knowledge about America culture by learning this subject. There is no doubt for me to learn many things, especially in cultures. For example, the way they think, the way they speak. It is important for me to learn more and more about this.

    8. Yes! After learning cross cultural understanding, I can know the way they speak and communicate. It is very helpful me to adapt with American people. Someday if go there and stay there, I do not need to be ashamed to communicate with them because I have got much knowledge about their culture, so it is easier to me for adapting.

    The CCU class contributes my language skill in listening, reading, and writing. But the big contribution is in my speaking skills. CCU class gives me the new thought about American Culture. By learning CCU I know that there are so many special things in America which I never know, like the traditional values and beliefs which can be emulated with us, Indonesians.

    2. CCU class contributes me most in speaking skills. Before I learn it, I feel ashame when I’m going to express my thought to others. Because Americans are brave people, I want to be like them, be brave to express my thought in speaking. Although I still make mistakes, i never give up to try again.

    3. Yes, it does.
    In the past, before I have learnt American Culture, I do not know if Americans do not have any vacations day. I cannot imagine if Indonesians do the same thing? There must be a national demonstration.

    4. Yes, it does.
    When I study about American Culture, I remember with my own culture and I want to know it deeper than before. Honestly, until now, I still do not know my own culture yet. But when my lecturer asked all of the students in CCU class about our own culture, I know it much more.

    Yesterday, I just know that Americans do what they want to do. Because individual freedom is valued in there, as I always watch in American movies, that is what I think of them. But now, my thought is wrong. Americans still have so many good values and beliefs that I never know.

    When we teach our students, we need not only the linguistics knowledge, but also the culture knowledge of the country which we learn.

    If I meet Americans, I can ask them deeper about their culture. I also know how the way I must speak with them.

    8. If yesterday I said NO Sir, and you suggest me to change my thought. Now I know what I thought yesterday is wrong. I cannot generalize it to the whole parts in our lives. As you said so, there are some people who still practice the theory correctly, and you know Sir, I will be one of them. So, by learning CCU, and if I have an opportunity to go to America, I will apply what I have learnt.
