1 Yes! CCU class contributes to my language skills especially reading and writing skills.Studying a culture which differs in many aspects with my own culture is very interesting and challenging. This lesson not only enrich my knowledge about America but also motivated me to find out more from some source by reading the sources of America where I can compare and contrast with the Indonesian state and learn how to write a good grammar in English writing and how to make a good paragraph or essay. This lesson to my knowledge will be broader American culture. This is very different from Indonesia which full of restrictions or regulations usually called either from local or regional government itself, which if violated rules on the offender shall be liable in accordance with the regulations
but, of course, all that positive and negative consequences for the country itself. For example, while American country is a country that is free in this that they are not bound by rules, such as Indonesia. The country is known worldwide as in developed countries, while Indonesia is still a developing country and tell the world recognize a country that has many debts, and also includes the world’s poorest countries.
2 CCU class contributed most to my writing skills. CCU class is a class which learns about American with culture in Indonesia. I was a student was asked to be active with a lot of reading from various sources or existing media, such as various kinds of good books from the library, the books in the bookstore, browsing the Internet, and even exchange opinions to fellow students who had lived in America. Thus, the ability to contribute greatly in learning this lesson is to read, then the knowledge that has been read in various sources and I write in a paragraph or essay writing skills are commonly called.
3 Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture. Each class meeting at CCU I always get new knowledge about American culture. For example, every meeting we have presentation from Mr. Parlin after that we were given the task and put in a blog at http://www.parlindunganpardede.wordpress.com which questions that has made us look for more resources about America that we must increase our knowledge even more. American culture, I know that they embrace individual freedom of doing things is not limited by regulations. It is inversely proportional to the state of Indonesia which has boundaries or rules in doing something good from the side of religion, culture, the environment is based on Pancasila and 1945 Constitution.
4 Yes! CCU class helps me raise awareness about my own culture. This is because each lesson we will learn about the cultural comparison between the United States and Indonesia. By using our comparative study of this culture, I became motivated to learn more and more the culture of Indonesia. For example, the equality of men and women should have the same status level. Many wonderful women who have a better mindset in the appeal to the leaders of men. Women also can be leaders and make the people prosperous. However it is very regrettable in Indonesia on women leaders so that in the view of one eye.
The second example is the equality of the people who have drawbacks such as Abdurrahman Wahid also deserves to be leaders. Although he has a physical shortage but he thought patterns to create a prosperous society is not inferior to the former president who has no physical shortage. In contrast to our present president is just a sales appointment only.
5 Yes! CCU class changes my perception towards American culture. I took samples of individual liberty in American society to do something that is not limited to the regulation because America is a country that embraces individual freedom.
It is inversely proportional to our country is full of rules or boundaries, limitations in doing anything that complies with the Pancasila and 1945 UD. However, although the American nation is a country that adopts freedom, America is a country well advanced in the field of economics, technology, etc.
The Government should therefore follow the procedures of the American nation to make the community of smart, creative, and could count on the assistance of their own country or in another country.
6 If I become an English teacher after graduating from FKIP-UKI, I think what I am learning in CCU class contribute to that profession.
As my English teacher not only mastered the language but also knowledge about the background and lifestyle of Americans who also then I can share with students my students. For example, by providing an understanding of their culture even though Americans embrace American freedom also embraces values such as individual freedom, equal opportunities, material wealth, self reliance, competition, hard work, self improvement, self-discipline, volunteerism, humanitarianism, free spirit, inventiveness, egalitarianism, and aggressiveness.
These values are certainly making the country a developed in America country such as economics, technology, etc.
7 I think what I am learning in CCU class will help me in communicating with Americans because when I meet American people I can talk and discuss something to them about difference culture American and Indonesia. With this class we realize CCU American lifestyle, such as lifestyle Uphold the values of individual freedom means they rarely can be arranged. They can do what they want and sometimes even collide with the interests of others. However, gradually some of them begin to appreciate the benefits of others. To obtain individual freedom, America must be the first independent, especially financially independent. So, It has become a tradition when the children were ages 9 annual American has worked as a newspaper deliveryman, or helping a neighbor tile roof that leaked. Do mengkasihani them because they do not want to be pitied. Work they do at an early age does not mean they are poor, but an attempt to get the ‘independence’ and ‘individual freedom’ them.
8 If one day I have the opportunity to go to America, I think the subject of CCU will make it easier for me to live in the USA. That’s because in addition we know their language and also we already know the background or their lifestyle is inversely proportional to Indonesia based on Pancasila and 1945 Constitution. So we are not surprised when he saw their lifestyle that is free because we already understand how their way of life. If I got a job there I would definitely approach to the employer until the boss for the advancement of the company and improve the quality of my work so that the name of Indonesia will be known in foreign countries and in admitted quality.

1.Yes , CCU class contributes to my language. Studying a culture which differs in many aspect with my own culture is interesting and challenging. The subject does not only enrich my knowledge about americans but also provides me opportunities to develop my language skill, especially speaking and writting. Ccu class have activities study group to disscuss about lesson it, and of course there is require active speaking to give an opinion about lesson it in class and every week is given assignments to post answer in the “cyber class”, and it helps give me forces to boost my writting skills, and sometimes Mr palin will give reply about correct grammar in writting or give opinion more idea.
2.CCU class contribute most to my writting and reading skills. Before join this class I have no clear of how to write an accadenic esssay because every week I always get assignment to write, so little bit little I can know how to write a good essay and in this lesson is expected so that to read lot of books and know lot of information from browsing the internet or read books about american culture in the library.
3.Yes, CCU class helps me raise my awarness about American Culture because with learning CCU , I become know about culture , belief and american values. I can also compare my own culture with american culture. For example built my awareness about american culture with watching their culture and watching performances American culture

With Cross Cultural Understanding I know about all the things from America, such as : art, literature, music, architecture, history, religion, and traditions. The important knowledge from the CCU are American values, attitudes, and cultural patterns. CCU class improve my knowledge about America, and change my perceptions about America.

CCU class contribute most to my reading skills. Before joining in this class, I just have a little knowledge about America, and after joining in the CCU class, I can improve the knowledge of America. CCU class change my perception about America and I think from the CCU class I can get the lesson from the American value.
3. Yes, because the CCU class, the people can improve their knowledge about the American value, and change their perceptions. For example : when the Indonesians want to immigrate to America to get the great work/job, but in the other hand very few Americans choose to emigrate to another country.

The Indonesian can get the lesson from American. Where the American believes that people should hold jobs and not live off welfare payments from the government.
For example : Indonesia people always hope to has a job in the government because they think, They can get the big salary. I think, from American value, Indonesia can take a lesson from this habit.

Because before joining in the CCU class, I have a little knowledge about America, and now I know more about America. CCU changes my perception about America.

1. Yes, CCU class contributes to any of my language skill. By study CCU, I am not only study about American culture, but also develop my language skill. Study about CCU make me can study about writing too, because our lecture always support us to fill our idea or our opinion in the writing. It is make me more study how to make a good written.
2. CCU class contributed most to my writing skills. We are really can apply the lesson of writing in the last semester in this class, and in this class we are helped to make a good written in the form of essay or paragraph. We can learn to express our opinion about the lesson.
3. Yes, CCU class helps me raise awareness about American culture. Before I study about CCU, I never know what the culture of American is. It is interesting when I study about their value and belief; it show how the American trained stand alone since they young and then it make the American have a good value in herself, such as competition, hard work, self improvement, self discipline, etc.
4. Yes, CCU class helps me raise awareness about my own culture. CCU helps me to more see about my culture. I can compare the American culture with the Indonesian culture. After I study more about the lesson, I more see how Indonesian missed many good values such as self discipline, competition, hard work and self improvement, and I motivated to have the values in my self.
5. Yes, CCU class changes my perception towards American culture. Before I study about it, I just know the American is the individual and materialistic people but I don’t know why they are like that. In CCU I learn that individual and materialistic of the American balanced with the values of hard work, volunteerism, humanitarianism, etc. Although they are individual people, they are charitable people. It proved they have a value of volunteerism and humanitarianism.
6. In my opinion, perhaps, if we work or teaching in the environment of American or work or teaching that related to American, this study is very contributed to that profession because we have knowledge and basic of the culture of American and it will help us to work or teaching well.

For the American talking about age and religion is too taboo, so if we talking with them, we must avoid talking about it. Because for them, religion is only about themselves and God.

Indonesia has the properties of a polite and courteous towards each other, and the Indonesian people are very easily if they were ordered to make a group that aims to work together to solve a problem because the Indonesian culture that always can not live alone, while their American country can not make one group because of their culture who are accustomed to living individuals, and now the American people are learning how to create a group to cooperate to solve a problem and it was very difficult for them to learn.

This often means achieving financial and emotional independence from parents at the earliest time possible. The need to “stand on their own feet” is considered a priority.

People like to complete are often more successful than others, and many honored by being called winners. On the other hand, these who do not like to compete and those who are not successful when they try are sometimes dishonored by being called losers. Learning to compete successfully is part of growing up in the United States, and competition is encouraged by strong programs of competitive sports provided by the public schools and community groups. Competitive sports are now popular with both men and women. Americans match their intelligence against that of their neighbors in a competitive contest for success. The more successful are considered as winners. The pressures of competition in life begin in early childhood and continue until retirement. Learning to compete and win is part of growing up. Competition and the desire to win are considered healthy and desirable.

Not only is getting a lot of new knowledge about American culture, I also can develop my language skills. Especially, the ability to speak and write. In the class CCU, I was assigned to discuss in groups and I also needed to make a weekly task in the form of an essay or a paragraph that must be posted in the “Cyber Classroom”. It made me know the correct way to write an essay. And hope the future can be better at writing essays.

It is important to understand what most Americans mean when they say they believe in equality of opportunity. They do not mean that everyone is — or should be — equal. However, they do mean that each individual should have an equal chance for success. Americans see much of life as a race for success. For them, equality means that everyone should have an equal chance to enter the race and win. In other words, equality of opportunity may be thought of as an ethical rule. It helps ensure that the race for success is a fair one and that a person does not win just because he or she was born into a wealthy family, or lose because of race or religion. This American concept of “fair play” is an important aspect of the belief in equality of opportunity. In Indonesia Differences in opportunity and treatment in employment is often rumored as a gender issue, which is then often associated as gender differences between men and women in various fields, also in obtaining employment and occupation. Gender issues are often actually been anticipated by our labor laws, even since the days of colonial Dutch East Indies, some of which are Staadblad No.348 on Occupational Health 1947 which later became Law no. 12/1948 on Occupational Health. In the law stipulated a ban employment of women, children and people muda.2
Among decision makers and implementers at several government agencies at both central and local, have raised questions about gender with a limited explanation of the roles and responsibilities or the balance between the roles of men and women in the family and society.

Bamboo, a natural wealth of Indonesian society actually has the advantages are very suitable as an alternative for problem solving to housing in earthquake areas. For Indonesia as a seismic area and the climate is tropical, bamboo has the advantages when used as residential building materials. Bamboo has a high enough power, ever the skin for several species of bamboo has tensile strength then steel. Besides durability, bamboo has a very long level if the true preservation process. When an earthquake occurred, houses are in the fruit of the bamboo will not immediately collapse because it is elastic and lightweight, other than it can give more time for occupants to immediately save himself. 1. Yes, I think Cross Cultural Understanding (CCU) class contributes to any of my language skills because this subject trains me to think about American culture. The culture is very different from Indonesia. Therefore, I try to differ it one by one, what the strength and what the weakness are from both culture. The most important thing from this subject is the meeting is not only in the classroom, we can also study and get material from blog. Through this way, I can improve my language skills both in real and cyber world.
2. I think CCU class contributed most of my writing skill. With the material about culture, it makes me to write everything in my mind to complete some exercises in the book and also in the blog. Almost all of the exercises are formed single paragraph or an essay, so I should focus in my writing skill to finish the exercises. Also in this mid-term test, I should finish it by writing an essay. I think the essay is complicated, but I try to write it well.
3. I agree that CCU class helps me raise awareness about American culture because almost all of the materials are about American culture. The material tells about American values and beliefs. With its values and beliefs, America is most successful country in this world now. Looking for America, I try to think about our lovely country, Indonesia. I try to differ the culture between Indonesia and America. I also think can Indonesia become successful country like America with our culture now?
4. Yes, through CCU class, I raise my awareness of Indonesian culture. This material make me think about situation and condition of Indonesia now. We know that Indonesia is a rich country, it has diverse culture from many regions but why Indonesia look like a poor country? Some countries try to steal our culture and make it become their own culture. Now, voting for new 7 wonders in the world, Indonesia represents Komodo Island for the new 7 wonders of world. I try to vote Komodo Island through an SMS to 9818, I hope Komodo Island becomes the new wonder of world and Indonesia is being famous in the world.
5. Yes, I think CCU class changes my perception towards American culture. I think Indonesia should learn from America especially in the value points. I am very interested in hard working of American people. They spend their times for working and studying, so they become a good and competitive people. Looking for Indonesia, a lot of our people spend their time only for playing. I try to apply this “hard work” in my life, I wish I will become a successful people.

With these points, I can improve my skill in my profession anytime and anywhere and I also hope that I will become a success people.
7. Yes, I think what I am learning in CCU class will help me in communicating with Americans. I have learned about American culture with this subject, so I recognize the culture of Americans. I can apply what I have learned from this subject to communicate to Americans. I hope I can go to foreign country like America. If I go to America someday, I will try to learn the culture of Americans directly, so I get more knowledge from its culture.
8. Yes, I agree that the subject of Cross Cultural Understanding will make it easier for me to live in the USA, if one day I have the opportunity to go there. By living in the America, I can face the culture of Americans, like by communicating to them directly. In CCU class, I get knowledge about American culture only in theory, but by living in America, I can get the knowledge about American culture in practice aspect.
Three More Important of American Values and Beliefs to emulate
I. Introduction
The earliest settlers came to the North American continent to establish colonies that were free from the controls that existed in European societies. They wanted to escape the controls placed on their lives by kings and governments, priests and churches, noblemen and aristocrats. To a great extent, they succeeded. In 1776, the British colonial settlers declared their independence from England and established a new nation, the United States of America. In 1789, when they wrote the Constitution for their new nation, they separated church and state so that there would never be a government-supported church. By limiting the power of the government and the churches, they created a climate of freedom where the emphasis was on the individual. Individual freedom, Equality of Opportunity and Competition, Material Wealth and Hard Work is probably the most basic of all the American values. By freedom, Americans mean the desire and the ability of all individuals to control their own destiny without outside interference from the government, a ruling noble class, the church, or any other organized authority.
II. Three More Important of American Values and Beliefs to emulate
There is, however, a price to be paid for this individual freedom: self-reliance. Individuals must learn to rely on themselves or risk losing freedom. This means achieving both financial and emotional independence from their parents as early as possible, usually by age 18 or 21. It means that Americans believe they should take care of themselves, solve their own problems, and “stand on their own two feet.” They think: They owe nothing to any man, they expect nothing from any man; they acquire the habit of always considering themselves as standing alone, and they are apt to imagine that their whole destiny is in their own hands.
This strong belief in self-reliance continues today as a traditional basic American value. It is perhaps one of the most difficult aspects of the American character to understand, but it is profoundly important. Most Americans believe that they must be self-reliant in order to keep their freedom. If they rely too much on the support of their families or the government or any organization, they may lose some of their freedom to do what they want. While in Indonesia This was seen in some quarters as protecting Indonesia’s domestic market by enforcing the implementation of the Indonesian National Standard to obstruct imports. This took place against a backdrop of calls for self-reliance and campaigns to buy local products. Indonesia is gripped by nervousness about export-oriented countries dumping their excess production into Indonesia as demand in the developed world slows down. This is backed up by the Indonesian business lobby who are keen to refocus their sales in Indonesia as their traditional export markets dries up. Politically, this seems to be expedient thing to do as Indonesian politicians, especially those the ruling government are gearing up for the 2009 elections and protecting jobs in Indonesia is seen as extremely important. This is coupled with growing support for shifting away from being an export-oriented economy and develop its own economy based on indigenous resources.
The second important reason why immigrants have traditionally been drawn to the United States is the belief that everyone has a chance to succeed here. Generations of immigrants, from the earliest settlers to the present day, have come to the United States with this expectation. In the first years of American history, the hopes and dreams of many of these early immigrants were fulfilled in their new country. The lower social class did not prevent them from trying to rise to a higher social position. Many found that they did indeed have a better chance to succeed in the United States than in the old country. Because millions of these immigrants succeeded, Americans came to believe in equality of opportunity.

So this made me realize how much our culture is very necessary in the fix back into the better.

I fare much new knowledge about their culture, which, they have the culture and values like hard work and self-discipline, and it is not I saw in Indonesian culture, because, when I see Indonesia is not discipline, including myself and therefore , changed my perception is that most of their culture, I think is very necessary in such an example by our nation’s culture of hard work and discipline self is, I think it changed my perception of myself in order to learn to be a man of discipline, such discipline in time, learn, and learn to work hard to achieve what I expected, in the sense of working hard to become a better for the future.

CCU class contributes to my language skills. in this course I learned a lot about cross-cultural and cultural diversity found in Indonesia and not only that in this course I can also dig again my horizons in the field of writing and speaking, because the lecturer is seeking to make students more active in class, with group activities students can express their own opinion easily, that’s why I argue that the CCU class helped me to dig my language skills.
2. CCU class contributed most to my writing skills. in this subject, lecturer tend to assign the task in the form of an academic essay. Each week student must answer the questions from the lessons that have been presented previously by writing an essay and send it through the blog. I personally think is very helpful for many students, especially to further hone my skills again in the field of writing and more carefully to determine the appropriate vocabulary to use in every sentence is to be conveyed.

I just know that America is one of big country that has freedom to any people either in dress or in a career. But in this course I learned about how the background of America become a big country and what American cultural values that are considered essential until now. Example, the value of independence. We know that Americans are an independent person, able to seek their own without waiting for help from others. even children who have been over the age of eighteen would prefer not to live with her parents and trying to find his own work, this is one of value that we can learn from the Americans to support herself independently.

CCU class helps me raise my awareness about my own cultural. actually, before I attended this course, I was the one who did not consider that Indonesian culture is important for me to learn, but after I follow this course and always present in this course I was so excited to recognize cultural diversity in Indonesia and make me aware that I should know the cultural history in own country is one of the important lessons that should belong to every citizen of Indonesia to introduce own cultural diversity in other countries, so that no more indigenous cultures of our country are free to be stolen in neighboring countries. Example, we know that Indonesia consists of diverse cultures such as Javanese, Batak, Madurese and other, of each from these areas have their respective cultures, for example java with soft and weak attitude and Batak with tough stance. One day my teacher ever said to us, we must behave like Javaness and appearance like Manadoness and be a people who work hard like Batakness. These are some examples we can learn from the culture of Indonesia.

They are also learn to live independently in accordance with the values that they consider important, since independence, they learn to be responsible about their future and think time is money. Particularly interesting is the fact that his religious diversity and religious devotion is enhanced by the traditional separation of church and state – something which conservative religious groups seek to undermine.

America has sometimes been criticized as a ‘throw-away’ country, a land where there is so much abundance that people are sometimes viewed as wasteful.
Sociologist Robin Williams attempted to offer a list of basic values in the United States:
Achievement, efficiency, material comfort, nationalism, equality and the supremacy of science and reason, over faith. There are certain ideals and values, rooted in the country’s history, which many Americans share. These are: FREEDOM, INDIVIDUALISM, PRAGMATISM, VOLUNTEERISM, MOBILITY, PATRIOTISM, PROGRESS, AMERICAN DREAM.
In this paper I choose three of them. They are:
1. Individualism
Americans’ notion of freedom focuses on the individual, and individualism has strong philosophical roots in America. Thomas Jefferson believed that a free individual’s identity should be held sacred and that his or her dignity and integrity should not be violated. America’s 19th c. Transcendentalists philosophers (Emerson, Thoreau, Fuller) argued for more individual self-reliance. Encouraged individuals to trust in themselves and their own consciences and to revolt against routine and habitual paths of conduct. Early 20th c. Pragmatists (James, Dewey) insisted upon the individual’s ability to control his or her fate. The willingness to participate in such groups is so widespread that six out of ten Americans are members of a volunteer organization. Volunteerism reflects Americans’ optimistic pride in their ability to work out practical solutions themselves. Americans like to form associations of different kind (Tocqueville and Mead wrote about that). For example, we can see from the Aceh’s earthquake, the first person who arrives in that province is American. They are very response and try to give the best that they can do. In my word, they are taking care about people who lives the other country.

Tocqueville in “Democracy in America” wrote: In the United States a man builds a house to spend his latter years in it, and he sells it before the roof is on: he plants a garden, and lets it just as the trees are coming into bearing: he brings a field into tillage, and leaves other men to gather the crops: he embraces a profession and gives it up: he settles in a place which he soon afterwards leaves, to carry his changeable longings elsewhere.” American’s habit. As a nation of immigrants, Americans have shared from the beginning the assumption that the practical solution to a problem is to move elsewhere and make a fresh start. Moving about from place to place is such a common and accepted practice that most Americans take it for granted that they may live in four or five cities during their lifetime. CCU class contributed most to my writing skills. In CCU class, the students are in demand to be able to write an essay with brilliant ideas. For myself, it requires me to actively search more information on the topic of the paragraph that I want to develop, for example in The American Religious Heritage. I search a lot of these topic by using internet.

Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture.
Before studying the CCU, I only know about freedom as American Culture. Americans are free to do anything without government control, religion. I take an example of freedom for religion. Many Americans who does not adhere to religion (infidels) and they feel enjoy with indifference. In Indonesia was established in the law on the freedom to believe and live their faith. However, if not embrace religion (pagans) that can cause a negative perspective because Indonesia is the eastern culture which is different with western culture.
4. Does CCU class help you raise awareness about your own culture? YES/NO (Explain and give one or more example!)
Yes! CCU class helps me raise awareness about my own culture. By CCU class, I get a lot of knowledge about my own culture. I can give my own view of my culture with each culture. I do not want to compare the culture of a region / country with each culture because the culture is unique. For example, many tourists said that Indonesian is friendly person. I’m proud of my own culture.

Yes! CCU class changes my perception towards American culture.
Before studying CCU class, I was thinking negatively about the freedom of American culture. I think that with such freedom, the great American action indefinitely. For example, scantily clad and free sex. However, after studying CCU class, I know that it is their culture. We can not blame them because it is their culture.
6. If you become an English teacher after graduating from FKIP-UKI, do you think what you are learning in CCU class contribute to that profession? YES/NO (Explain and give one or more example!)
Yes. CCU class contribute to my profession as an English teacher after graduating from FKIP – UKI. I want to create a new learning method from utilize what I have learned in CCU class. For example, I will teach my students about our own culture such as between Bataknese and Javanese. In my opinion, it is better if the first one to know and learn about the culture before we learn each culture. We must appreciate and preserve our own culture. After that, it is good to learn about each culture.
7. Do you think what you are learning in CCU class will help you in communicating with Americans? YES/NO (Explain give one or more example!)
Yes! What I’ve learnt in CCU class will help me in communicate with Americans. For example: A few days ago, I went to a place of recreation in East Jakarta. There I met an American tourist. I ventured to welcome them. We meet and talk many thing such as about these place and where does he come from. I felt happy to talk with him because I’ve known how to communicate with him through what I learned at CCU class.

Yes! The subject of Cross Cultural Understanding will make it easier for me to live in the USA, if one day I have the opportunity to go there because in CCU class I learn the culture of America. I learn about Traditional American values and beliefs and American Ways. In the context of Traditional American Values, I learn about Racial, Ethnic, Religious, and Cultural Diversity. CCU class is very useful and enrich my knowledge about America, so if one day I have the opportunity to go there I ready and able to adapt to in America.

1. Yes! CCU class contribute to my language skills. Studying different cultures in many aspects with my own culture interesting and challenging. The subject is not only enrich my knowledge about America, but also gives me the opportunity to develop my language skills, particularly speaking and writing. Discussion activities, particularly those held in groups, requires an active speaking. Weekly tasks that will be posted in the “virtual classroom” forced me to improve my writing skills, enhance creativity and increase vocabulary.
2. CCU class contributed the most appropriate way to improve my writing skills. Prior to joining this class, I do not know clearly about how to write an academic essay properly. In this class, students are required to write their ideas in a paragraph or essay. As a result, I can write, more attention to word order (grammar) and to enrich my vocabulary.
3. Yes! CCU classes helped me increase my awareness about American culture. And understand. Until one day I went there I was not surprised or clumsy and adaptable.

1. Yes, CCU class provides a lot of things that I have not known before about the various cultures. I can study and understand the culture of other countries such as America. I can also compare it with my own culture. It makes my knowledge in understanding the increasing diversity of cultures that exist in this world. And most importantly, my writing ability is getting better by the CCU class.
2. Yes, CCU helps me in writing skill. This subject gives me motivation to keep trying to improve my ability in channeling the mind, stringing words and then write down these thoughts in cyber class. I can find out what the error is on my writing, and what do I need to fix to get the writing something better than before.
3. Yes, CCU class provides awareness about American culture. Many of the things I can know about America. It turned out that American culture is contrary to the culture in Indonesia in which the life of the American people is too free. However, many positive sides that we can follow from the American people such as hard work, self-reliance, etc.

I remain proud of my culture, although other cultures better. I tried to love my own culture in order to remain preserved until later.

6. Yes, of course. To teach a language to others, we also need to know the culture so that the process of delivering learning to be more clear. We can put any material CCU to a class that we teach are more beneficial and useful to the direction of learning. We can compare one culture with another culture because each culture has a unique value of each we need to learn and navigate.
7. Yes, I can find out the nature and personality of the American people. My knowledge of American people is increasing and useful for me in the future. So, when I met American people at least somewhat know their personalities and interact with them.

CCU class can improve our knowledge about culture and increase my ability in language. From CCU, I increase my language in writing, speaking, and listening. CCU makes me able to argue in debate class. I learn to be brave in speaking. My weekly assignment that I post in Lecturer’s blog increase my ability in writing and increase my vocabulary.

4. Yes, Cultural Awareness is the foundation of communication and it involves the ability of standing back from ourselves and becoming aware of our cultural values, beliefs and perceptions. I can be see, interpret and evaluate things in a different ways. What is considered an appropriate behavior in one culture is frequently inappropriate in another one. e.g. a straight look into your face is regarded as disrespectful in Japan. Becoming aware of our cultural dynamics is a difficult task because culture is not conscious to us. Since we are born we have learned to see and do things at an unconscious level. Our experiences, our values and our cultural background lead us to see and do things in a certain way. Sometimes we have to step outside of our cultural boundaries in order to realize the impact that our culture has on our behavior. It is very helpful to gather feedback from foreign colleagues on our behavior to get more clarity on our cultural traits.

Before studying CCU, firstly I just know the thinks about American. For example, I just knew American life is very bed. For example , there are many teenagers eho do sex before marriage another. Example, I also think that there are homosexual. Homosexual is permitted. It’s a little example about negative things that I thought that American culture before.
Now, after studying CCU, I be are know more about the real American culture. It opened my mind that there are so many positive things that I can find in American culture. For example, I know that actually American people are hard worker. They depend on hard work. They have high willingness to save and invest money. It is because they get money easily. Another example, there is freedom of religion in the United States. They never free religion to people. The people are free to choose religion that they want to believe.

If I graduate from Faculty of Education and Teachers Training in CUI and become an English teacher, I will contribute what I have learn in the class Culture Cultural Understanding as a teacher. I have to be able to adapt myself where I teach. If I teach in America, I will implement the knowledge about the American culture that I have learned in Cross Cultural Understanding class. For example : If the students in America are not polite to their teacher, I will try change the bad habit so that they can be polite. If I teach in Indonesia I will take the positive things about American culture that I have learned to implement in my class. For example : Cross Cultural Understanding said that one of American culture is self-discipline. The students in America are very discipline. On the other hand, students in Indonesia lack of self discipline. So, I will try to implement self-discipline to Indonesian students so that they can have good self discipline.

For example : If they meet with their friends in American culture, they get used to kiss their friends cheeks to show their friendship. 1.Yes, CCU class gives me big contribution in my english skill, especially in writing skill. By this lesson, i learn how to make a good writing. Because Mr.parlin the lecture, every week gives the student assignment by ask the student to post it at his blog related to the material has been taught by him.Not only writing skill but also reading skill.By learning CCU i learn a huge vocabularies within. And the most important is by learning CCU i already know american culture and enrich my knowledge about american culture.
2.Writing, the subject CCU gives big contribute to my writing skill. By the assignment that mr.parlin gives to me, i learn how to make a good essay, and i try to share the opinion about the material every week by post it to mr.parlin blogs. Mr.parlin also gives the guidelines how to make a good essay/paragraph in his slide every material at his blog. So i can learn by myself and apply to my assignment. No wonder that is why CCU subject gives big contribution for my writing skill.
3.Yes, CCU class makes me aware about american culture. Before i take this subject, im a person that apathetic about american culture. Since i learn CCU i realize that some of american values are good for me, generally for indonesian to adapt their culture and value. That are self reliance,hard work, and self-dicipline. Which is the value above are things that can make me to build my character. And now i show my awareness by adopt the values in my daily life
4.Yes, By learn american culture, i also learn indonesian culture by compare it. So this automatically makes me think and finally made me care about the culture of my own country. I think this should be a reflection when I studied the culture of another country, I should be able to take the positive values of the culture of another country and apply it to life. I was thought that american culture are rude and full of impoliteness things but since i learn CCU i realized that american culture has many good values to me to emulate in my life. That are self-reliance, self-dicipline, hard work, humanitarianism and so on. By learn CCU i also be open minded for other culture which not only indonesia has a good values.

For instance since i know that if you are talking with american, you should look at your partner eye. It shows that you are polite person. Different from javanese culture. 1. Yes. CCU class contribute to my languange skill. Studying culture, especially Amrican culturel is quite interesting to me. I can learn many things through this lesson and could be a reflection and or a comparison of Indonesian cuture. This subject develop my knowledge skill especially in reading and writing. I think this subject ask us to have more practise in reading. To be connected with the lecturer before or after the class, students need to read a lot so that they could follow the lesson well. Beside it, because this interest to me, I am excited to read any culture of American. The more having practise it help to get the topic easily. Moreover, through this subject also help me to develop my writing, because students of CCU have to posted or make comment about the topic what the students have learned.
2. Writing . This lesson i think need to have more in writing time. Joining this cass train me much in writing. Every week we need to read the topic that will discuss and of course have to comment it or make some opinion about what we have learned. Thus, in posting the comment make me have to try hardly day by day how to write paragraph even essay in a good written.

Every people/country have their value towards their culture.

1. Yes, CCU class contributes to my language skills. In general I can understand when people from different cultures find new approaches to old problems creating solutions by combining cultural perspectives and examining the problem at hand from each other’s differing cultural perspectives. It also make my writing and reading skills better than before. On CCU class, I almost hava a discussion with my friends. I think it’s fun.
2. Yes, CCU class contributed most to my writing skills. Before joining this class, I don’t like academic essay. But now, I always hava a discussion in the class with my friends. In this class, the students must be independent. The students must do the exercises that given by our lecturer on his blog, and it make me more creative and give me more knowledge to do his exercises.. And in this class, we required to write our ideas in a single paragraph or essays.

United States is a diverse nation, it is home to numerous organization and social groups and individuals may derive their group affiliated identity from a variety of sources. American culture includes both conservative and liberal elements, military and scientific competitiveness, political structures, risk taking and free expression, materialist and moral elements. Despite certain consistent ideological principles (e.g. individualism, egalitarianism, and faith in freedom and democracy), American culture has a variety of expressions due to its geographical scale and demographic diversity.
For example, The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a U.S. non-profit organization whose stated mission is “to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States.” It works through litigation, legislation, and community education.
4. Yes, CCU class class help me raise awareness about my own culture. We know that Indonesia is a big country, which has many islands. And has many culture too. Indonesian culture shows that Indonesian people is kind and nice person. But nowadays, many people don’t care one another. They has been busy with their own problems. As a earth country, Indonesia still keep their culture. A girl who go outside from her home, must be at home again at 9 p.m. It shows that the freedom in Indonesia hasn’t built. It’s maybe different with American culture that give many freedom to their children.
5. Yes, CCU class change my perception towards about American culture. Before I study about CCU, I think that America is an arrogant country which can do anything that they want. They don’t care with the other people. But now, I learn that it’s their own culture. They has learned to be an independent person since they was born. For example, babies who was born in America, has had their own rooms after their birth, and they didn’t sleep together with their parents. And after that, they do anything by theirself.
6. Yes, I think what I am learning in CCU class, contribute to my profession after I become an English teacher after graduating from FKIP-UKI. I have learned more than the other. I can follow the good habbits from American people, like their confident with the other country, their independent to do something. And I will not follow their bad habbits like selfish, arrogant, and their freedom. I will keep the positive habbits that my parents taught to me.

We will talk about their life in America, how to life with many visitors in their country, and I will ask what they think about Indonesia. We will share together and I will have more knowledge about America.

1. Yes! CCU class contributes to my language skills. After I join in CCU class I learn many values of American culture. I become know the different of American culture with my own culture. In the hand, this subject also develops my language skill and awareness at my own culture. My writing skill is trained when I post comment in my lecture blog, and my reading skill also develop since I joined in CCU class.
2. The most contributed skills that I get in CCU class are my reading and writing skill. In CCU class I have to read the book and I found many other words that I have did not know before. I also learn how to pronounce that new words. Moreover my writing skill also has provided with any task that lecture give to me like writing essay, make a group to answer the question or post comment in my lecture blog.
3. Yes! CCU class help raise my awareness about the American culture. Since I learn the culture of American in CCU class I become know how the American are. Before that we know the American identical with them action movie, and their power of military or free sex. But since I learn the culture of American in social class I have know that American has many aspect that they have that we have to take.

Because I already know the American culture from the books about the American society, all movies that I watch and a story about the American life is social culture. American is the people with full of spirit, and the high sense of humanitarianism that very massive. So CCU class is does not change at all my perception about the American.
6. Yes! All I ever learning in CCU class that contribute to my profession if I become an English teacher after I graduated from FKIP-UKI. In CCU class I learn many aspect of American life that can be my grip when I become a teacher. For example, if I become a teacher in some international school that have many foreign students especially from America, I have know about their habits, and their main pattern that makes me can easy adaption with them. Furthermore, easier to teach them.

I have learned many culture of American, how their ways to communicate to each other in social culture, how their ways to adaption to social culture and many more. For example, when I make a conversation with an American that I must look straight in her ayes when they are talking. Because, the American assumed impolite when talking to each other without look at her eyes.

2. CCU class Contribute most to my Writing, since I learned at CCU I can develop all the opinions that are in my brain, that the opinions relating to Cross Culture.
3. Yes, CCU taught me a lot about the cultures that exist in America. So I can learn a lot about the culture-buday in America. In addition the CCU also taught me about how to adapt to American culture and values, beliefs that exist in America.
4. Yes, by learning the CCU I became curious about the values and culture in Indonesia. Thus I learned the values and culture anything that is in Indonesia but not owned by another country.
5. No, because before I learned in the CCU Class I already knew some of the values and culture in America, such as freedom, privacy and etc.. In the CCU Class I can go deeper in the values and culture in America.
6. Yes, if I had graduated from the FKIP and became a teacher, I will also teach about Cross Culture Understanding to my students later. So they too can understand about the cultures that exist in other states.
7. yes, because I already knew a lot of the CCU about culture in America, such as how to greet, talk, socialize and etc. So I do not experience distress when communicating with Americans.

1. YES ! CCU class obviously contribute on any of my language skills. With every section of CCU class I learn about a different culture of Americans have with my own. Besides the subject is exciting for me, in this subject I can developed my reading skills when I read the book that explain about the American culture. Moreover, in this subject I also can evolving my speaking skills in the part of discussion group that require us to speak active English.
2. The most contributed skills that I get in CCU class is my reading skills. With joined CCU class I got that with reading the CCU books that I have now I get more interested to read an English book. In that book I found that many words or term that I ever know before. So, I can enrich my vocabulary number besides I got knowledge about the American life and culture that I think is interesting to be learned.
3. YES ! In CCU class I have raised my awareness about American culture. Actually, before I get this subject I just can learned all about culture of Americans from movie or books that I ever watch read. But now I can get more references to learn about it from CCU class. An explanation that lecture gives to us, references book, or sharing knowledge with friends in class can added my knowledge about the American culture.
4. YES ! Definitely CCU class help raise my awareness to my own culture. In CCU class I`m not only learn about the culture that American have. But in this subject I also learn and aware of the comparison culture, values, or various aspects of life between America and my own nation. I thought that my own country have to learn more from all things that American have to make this country one step forward than now.

Actually, as I know before from all movies, book, or news that story about the American life or behavior, America is a country that full of freedom spirit, independent, socialism, and a hard worker people. All those things just the same with that I learned in CCU class to figure the Americans culture and values that they have. 6. YES ! I think the lesson that I have learned in CCU class can contribute in teacher profession after I have graduated. For example, someday if I become an English teacher that have some students that come or descent of American I think we can add our teaching method with some culture which come from America in our class. Thus, we can give them a condition class that near with their culture and we have more easily ways to teaches them.

With all lesson that I have learned in CCU class I have more knowledge about all things that connected with Americans exactly a manner when they talk with other people. For example, when Americans talk each other they like to see straight in the eyes of people that talking to him or her. Thus, someday when I have a conversation with an Americans I will like to do that.

In CCU class I have learned about the culture of Americans. More or less I have know about the way of life or habit that they like to do in society. For instance, the Americans are the people that not like to spend their time to the vain things. They prefer to work along day than rest just for a while, so I have to make adjustment with their culture even though in my own culture that is one thing that difficult to do.

In addition, learn about American culture, that is knows as a super power country and learn the key of their success is an opportunities for me. This learn gives me the motivation or teach me about life. In addition to experience, this lesson also adds expertise in the field of my speaking and my writing. Each meeting there is discussion that trains my ability to speak more and more about the cultural of American and to compare it to our culture and naturally it increased my vocabulary.
2. CCU class contributed most to my writing skills. Each week after class CCU, there is an assignment which must be done. The assignment is presented in the form of paragraph and essay. Previously, I did not know much about how to write paragraphs and essays as well. But, the tricks of writing or aspect that we need to answer the tags is attached in blog. It is a challenge for me to be diligent in reading tricks that are presented on the blog and it becomes the source of my skill in writing.
3. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture especially the way of looking the another person. They believe that all people are created equal and that all should have an equal-opportunity to succeed and it is seen as having a religious basis. Whereas, if judging from their lifestyle that is free both in the association, dressed, and in speaking against to the culture concerned with others. Although their culture is not polite according our culture but they are civilizing religion in their life.
4. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about my own culture that the culture of each place or person is different. For example, about the tattoo. Tattoo for the Dayaks Borneo is a culture that shows the position in the tribe. The more tattoo it means a higher position in the tribe. While in Jakarta, people who have tattoo are seen as ugly and punk person. The more tattoos that means getting naughty. Another example is the way of worship that seems to matter is influenced by culture. Culture quite worship as the proper way to the HKBP church while in Tiberias festive atmosphere is the right way to praise the Lord.
5. Yes! CCU class changes my perception towards American culture. At first, I looked ugly to American culture. Especially the nature of their freedom that leads to selfish character and not concerned with religion. After studying the CCU, my perception changes that the culture-free which they do is the responsible freedom. They really put their freedom in major but they balanced it with other culture, for example to egalitarian culture or culture to not interfere with each other. Moreover they complete each other.
6. Yes! I think that the learning in CCU class contribute to my profession as a teacher. CCU teaches us about the culture of other country in daily and also their culture in learning. As teacher I need to know the culture of my students. Maybe, my students come from other tribe or foreign country so I must understand about their culture. For example, a foreign student talk dirty, I can not to scold her because it’s not prohibited in their culture, or a girl student is dressed sexy, I do not have to force him to change her style because the sexy dress is familiar in their country. CCU helped me to become a professional teacher, who is able to adapt to my students that from different cultures.
7. Yes, I think CCU class will help me in communicating with American. CCU class gives me the knowledge about culture and the way Americans speak and I can better appreciate the differences and habits of others. For example in the introduction to American, most Americans do not like when asked about their age, status, religion and politics. So, we can avoid miss communication and communication will be smooth and they will regard us as brothers.
8. Yes, by learning the CCU, we can know about the culture and lifestyle in America. It makes easier for us to get along and adapt to the culture in America. Examples about American visit culture, if you want to visit someone, you must make an appointment in advance one week earlier. This applies for a friend or parents. This knowledge discards our bad thoughts about someone who refuses their parents as guests without prior notice.

1. Yes! This subject increases my knowledge about all things which relate to Americans. In the CCU class, I get to know more why America can be a developed country and be a nation of nations in the world. The subject not only increases my knowledge about Americans, but also sharpens my language skills, especially my writing and my speaking skill. Posting comments on the “cyber class” forces me to upgrade my writing skill. Discussing activities are the most influential things to sharpen my speaking skill.
2. This subject contributes most to my writing skill. Because, in weekly assignments, the students are required post their ideas in a paragraph or an essay to know how far they understand the topic which they have learned in the class. The assignments make the students are accustomed to write their own ideas. So, their writing skills are increased and they have known more about how to write an academic essay.
3. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture. Because, from CCU lesson, I have known that American has so many good values and beliefs which is not owned by other countries. For instance, Americans believe that inventiveness is very important. They try to invent anything to support and help human’s life. Their inventions are well known all over the world.
4. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about my own culture. Because, I become understand more about the cultural differences between the America’s culture and Indonesia’s culture. If Indonesia is rich in culture because it has hundreds of tribes, America is rich in culture because its people are from various countries in the world. By comparing both cultures, Indonesian and American, I also have more knowledge about my own culture that is I never know before. For example, I have known that are so many languages, values, and religious activities from each tribe which enrich my own culture.
5. Yes! Before I joined CCU class, I had a bad perception about American culture because their culture is different with my own culture. After I learned the CCU, I understood that even though their culture is different from my culture, it did not mean their culture was bad. Their culture was still had positive values from their perspective. For example, in the past, I thought that their culture liberates each person to do what they want was something bad. And I also thought, they had no boundaries or norms. Apparently I was wrong; their freedom was still restricted by themselves. Person’s freedom should not interfere with the others freedom.
6. Yes! What I have learned in CCU will contribute to my profession as an English teacher. Because I have known about the culture, behavior, social life, and the other things which relate to Americans. For example, I will be more able to share my knowledge to my students about American culture later. My sharing will enrich their knowledge and motivate them to build our country will be able to become a developed country, like America. I also train to write essays in CCU class, it can be a good asset to be a potential teacher. The values of Americans that I have learned also give me some positive things to develop my mind and my views about Americans.

1. Yes! CCU class contributes to my language skills. It is an interesting class because I learn a culture which differs in many aspects with my own culture. The subject not only teaches me about the American culture, but also gives me the chance to enhance my language skills, especially my writing, reading, and speaking skills. Written assignment gives me the opportunity to improve my writing skill, it allows me to pay attention to the good grammatical sentences which is very important in writing skill. In order to understand and answer the given assignment in CCU class, I have to skimming and scanning through the pages and this contributes to my reading skill. Having the dialog in the classroom with the lecturer or in the group, help me to improve my speaking skill.
2. (D)Writing! According to my recent observation, CCU class contributes most to my writing skill. As a CCU student, I am required to write my ideas about the cultures in a single paragraph or essay. This is quite hard to me because I have no clear ideas about writing an essay or paragraph. As a consequence of attending CCU class, I have to keep practicing my writing skill and learn more how to write a good essay and paragraph.
3. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture. In CCU class, I learn about the American cultures which are very useful for me. Interactions between individuals with different cross-cultural backgrounds come with a large scope of challenges and potential risks which need to be addressed. Cross-cultural Awareness will enhance my cross-cultural skills and a raised awareness of possible cultural issues I may face if I working on a cross-cultural team, especially with the American. My cross-cultural awareness competences will help me to work, communicate and interact more effectively, giving them a better chance to reach their targets and achieve success.
American cultures are different with the Indonesian cultures. For Example, the American like to see in the eyes while talking with somebody, but for Indonesian, it is considered rude to see in the eyes while talking with somebody. Besides that, the American like to speak straight to the point, while Indonesia like to go around first before come to the point. This is not a problem for people who have cross cultural awareness, but for people who have no cross cultural awareness; this can lead to a problem. So, it is good for me to attend CCU class.
4. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about my own culture. Besides learn about the view of other cultures and become aware of their frame of reference, CCU class also serves as a mirror through which I obtain an image of my own culture. It seems inevitable that the study of other cultures also encompasses the study of my own culture. For example, in a hot day, I may like to walk around wearing BIKINI like what westerns usually do. Before do that, there must be a question for me” is this suitable for me? Or “is this appropriate to my culture?” of course this is not appropriate to my culture and I aware of it.
5. Yes! I used to think that American is not good because they are individualism, egoism, rough, and rug. Furthermore, the way they wear clothes and they freedom in all things including free sex are impolite and disgusting, but after I attended CCU class and learn about their cultures, I understand. For example, western couple likes to express their love by kissing and hugging each other in the public area and for the Indonesian this seems impolite. We never do such things in public area, but that is their cultures and we should be annoyed by that. So it is good to attend the CCU class because if I have cross cultural competences, I will be able to avoid the misunderstanding between cultures.
6. Yes! Of course what I have learned in CCU class contribute to my profession as an English teacher. As we know that learning is also a culture. Students nowadays are very smart. They are very inquisitive about a lot of thing. With the globalization era, many foreigners come to our country. They come with the cultures which are different from our cultures. This may raise the question from the students who are still lack of cross cultural competences. For example, when students go to the beach with a lot of tourists wearing bikini or underwear, they are curious why these people like to wear opened-clothes and classroom discussion is a source where they can find the answer to their question. So as a teacher who has learned cross cultural understanding, we should be able to explain it.
7. Yes! As what I have mentioned in number 3, cross cultural understanding competence is very helpful in communicating with the American. For example, when I have business colleagues from American, My cross-cultural awareness competences will help me to work, communicate and interact with them more effectively without any misunderstanding.

So when we know the extent to which our language skills, we can continue to learn until we can communicate with others in using a foreign language. Learning CCU will increase our knowledge about cultures or aspects of any culture in America.
2. I think the CCU it taught me about the four skills, such as: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Because the CCU class, lecturer gives us knowledge through the language he uses when speaking, so that we can know how to speak in English language properly and correctly, according to the grammar. 1. Yes,it does! Because CCU can contribute to any my language skills. I can know about the different cultures in many countries and I know about the characteristics of people in every countries. With learning of CCU I’m not only get the knowledge of culture kinds in other countries but I can improve my language skills especially, in speaking and writing. The discussion activities in class is going to make me active in speaking skill, how to give some ideas based on my mine, how to share the opinion between the other. Not only that, with the weekly assignment to be posted it’s going to improve my writing skill. And with this way I can give an opinion with my friend’s answer. So, CCU is interesting learning because we should be charged and we should be active for giving some opinion with the other based on the topic such as culture, characteristics of the people in every country caused everybody has many different opinion and by sharing of opinion it’s going to improve our knowledge.
2. Writing. CCU class contributed most to my writing skill. Because before I’m joining this class, I have no clear idea of how to write an academic essay. In this class, I know about how to make an essay with the elements of essay and I can arrange some sentences into good paragraph by using the topic, supporting detail, and the conclusion. And with learning CCU I’m more effectively than before to give some opinions or ideas based on the topic who is the lecturer has given.

But now I’m aware that “BATIK” is the typical of Indonesia if we are wearing “BATIK” is the same we are showing about the culture of Indonesia. Almost the other countries are trying to get this culture – “BATIK”, they do like that to improve their countries especially about the unique culture. So, in Indonesia every people should wear “BATIK” in every Friday that to show one of the characteristics of Indonesian people.

1. Yes, CCU class contribute to my language skills because I can compare cultures between Indonesian culture and American culture. By CCU class I know all about American both of culture and values. In the other hand I can improve my language skills they are reading, writing, speaking and listening. My lecturer give us the book “American Ways” where that book can give me information all about American. So I can learn reading skills by that book.
CCU class can improve my skills in writing because I learn how to make Essay. After CCU class my lecturer always give us assigment in his blog to comment the material that has been presented by him in Essay.
In CCU class, we often make a group to discuss the material that has been presented by our lecturer so I learn how to speak English in Mr.Parlin Pardede’s class.
Besides presentations, our lecturer also play video about American culture an values and it also improve my skills is listening.
2. The most contributed in my language skill has the subject CCU is Writing. After CCU class my lecturer always give us assigment in his blog to comment the material that has been presented by him in Essay. I can try to learn how to make Essay. And it so difficult because make an essay not like make a paragraph. But it is become a new thing for me to learn in making essay. And I am happy to make it.

The explanation of American culture that is provide from the CCU class make me more interested to learn about English language. Because American culture is very unique and diverse, therefore I was interested to read and understand the books about American culture. Moreover CCU class also contribute to develop my writing skills by writing paragraphs or write an essays about American culture and history as well as the development of the country.
2. The most contributed skills that I get in CCU class is my reading skill. After several months we’re studied about the culture and history of America at CCU class, I became more interested in reading books which is used in class CCU and others related books to American culture and history. From those books we will know more clearly about the culture and habitual of American society. Thus, I can improve and develop my reading skill with interesting topics which is provided in the CCU class.
3. In the past time, I just know the American culture from the films I’ve ever seen. But in the CCU class I know more about the culture and American society. CCU classes provide a major influence for my knowledge about the culture of America. For example, our lecturer said to us is the America does not have any religious holidays. Compared with Indonesia which has many religious holidays. Thus, CCU class help me to raise awareness to hard working as well as the American people do.

In CCU class, I learned about American culture but I did not forget my own culture. After I learned the history and culture which develop in American society, I became aware that our country have to learn more from America. 1. Yes! CCU class contributes to my language skills. Because by learning CCU I know the American culture of the country that I can compare it with my own country. The subject not only learns about American countries, but also other countries. Then practice my English skills and boost my level of thinking with new knowledge that I received. Class of CCU required thinking critically and being able to pour all my opinions with group discussions or ask the lecturer, thus making my practice to get used to speaking in the English language. Tasks assigned by lecturer very beneficial to train the English language proficiency in written form or essays written by the blog, so I should really pay attention to my grammar and vocabulary knowledge can also add new-vocabulary.
2. CCU Contributed most to my class:
a) Listening: My ability in Listening getting trained to listen to any explanation from my lecturers who speak the English language, because sometimes I need some time to listen to someone who speaks English so I understood what was being said by that person.
b) Speaking: In Speaking I highly trained in the CCU class, talk or discussion to discuss the topic with friends and lecturer, to get accustomed to speaking in English.
c) Reading: Reading literature in English is the hardest thing for me, because in addition to reading I also have to understand the content of the reading is coupled with the vocabulary that I don’t know. But CCU requires me to read and understand it so that my knowledge increases.
d) Writing: My ability to write still very common, but through the CCU I can train through writing an essay on the blog, so my writing skills could better.

4. Yes! CCU classes help me raise awareness about my own culture. After learn about American culture I became curious and wanting to know about the culture of Indonesia.

Nearly everywhere, Indonesian gender ideology emphasizes men as community leaders, decision makers, and mediators with the outside world, while women are the backbone of the home and family values.

Being an English teacher not only mastered discussed the language, but also masters the knowledge of American culture that I can share with students. For example of American culture on their hard work to achieve success. Americans are very rarely able to enjoy the vacation, in addition to a holiday. They use a lot of his days to work hard trying to be the one to stay ahead and succeed. It can motivate students to want to strive to achieve a success.
7. Yes! What I learned in class CCU helped me communicate with Americans. Because when I met and talked with them I would be able to explore more about American culture, not just know a little bit. I can ask anything about American culture that I’m not understood. For example in terms of food, Americans are very like to consume fast food because they do not have to bother to cook for themselves. But I don’t like fast food, and maybe it will be difficult for me to tell them to wait for a dish that I created myself.

Understanding the CCU means I’ve got an idea of the United States. And when I lived there later, I could get used to the culture they live, so it will not feel awkward with the habits of United States. For example about timely, there is no rubber time there. If you are invited at 07.00 pm, then the maximum you should come half an hour earlier (in time). As a precaution, do not ever come on time (on time).

2. CCU class contributed most to my writing skills. Before joining this class, I have no clear idea of how to write an academic essay. In this class, the students are required to write their ideas in a single paragraph or essays. As a consequence, now I have start to understand how to write essays correctly, although still a little wrong in writing.
3. Yes, CCU class contributed about how the increase in American culture, it provides a deeper knowledge of the meaning of which I do not know how American culture then and now to be know. American culture has a lot of diversity that is different from other nations. The large variety of ethnic, cultural, and religious groups meant that accepting diversity was the only practical choice. In time many Americans came to see strength in their country’s diversity.

In CCU class I was taught to understand American culture in various fields which are very obviously differences with the culture in my country. Through discussions that have been placed on Bloge made me develop my vocabulary itself and helped me to be able to write to explain my every opinion by using either an equivalent or in other words extending one of my English language skills which are writing

3. In CCU class helps me increase my consciousness about American culture. In this lesson I have learned about the culture contained in the American state where American states have some values that make the country called as a superpower. One of the values which are very necessary in adoption is their hard work we already know American is a very hard working, America’s workers also work longer work weeks and put in more hours over the course of the year than counterparts in many advanced economies, they work 40 hours or more each week. This culture is very different from Indonesia therefore I realized that Indonesia is still far behind the state American so by studying one of the cultural values made me to be able to follow the hard work of American.

Because as I know the cultures of the American people are like that and they basically developed for attitudes and values are inside. 5. CCU class changes my perception towards American culture. Before studying CCU class, I have known some perceptions of American culture. But, after I studying CCU class, I get more knowledge or perceptions towards American culture. Example, before studying CCU class, I do not know that American people capable to work 40 hours per week. I know that American people are hard worker, but I never think that American people have a capability to work that hard. So, CCU class changes my perception towards American culture.
6. I think what I’m learning in CCU class contribute to my profession as a teacher is I have a capable to teach my students about American culture and tell to them the positive and the negative of American culture.
7. I think what I have learned in CCU class will help me in communicating with Americans. Because, approximately I have known about American culture. So, it will help me in communicating with Americans. Example, if there is American people come to UKI, I can share to him or her about their culture which is maybe some people do not know about their culture. So, I think what I have learned in CCU class will help me in communicating with Americans.
8. I think the subject of Cross Cultural Understanding will make me easier to live in the USA. Because, approximately I have known about American culture after studying CCU class. So, if I live there, I’m not be clumsy to the American culture anymore. Because, I have known about American culture after studying CCU class.

1. Yes, it does. CCU contributes my language, especially for my writing and reading.
This CCU class stimulate me to read more and more about cultures, where by this subject, unconsciously my vocabulary has increased, not only vocabulary but also i have got much knowledge about cultures from this CCU class, especially America culture. This subject also improve my writing skill, that is by the task that has given for CCU class. It stimulates me to practice in writing my idea.
2. Reading, because by this subject, I have to learn much the other countries culture especially, American culture. For example, I can know much more about American values and beliefs, e.g. self-discipline, volunteerism, and competition through reading. It is automatically can make my knowledge become wide by reading can also make my vocabulary increase. Furthermore, by reading their culture, I can also change my mindset. I can emulate the way they think, I got a lot of knowledge by reading.
3. Yes, it does. By this subject, I have known much more about American cultures.
For example: The way their thinking about their future and self-discipline.
I admit that American is important figure for Indonesia and also for other countries. Because there are many things that they have given proof to the world that America is the most successful country. The basic factor for them is cultures. They are hard-working, self-reliance and freedom. Culture has made them successful. We must not be shame to emulate their culture.
4. Yes, it does. American cultures bring me to realize that their values and beliefs are important for me to improve my self. For example: I can control my self to manage my time where I am here just alone or far from my family. By knowing American culture, stimulate me to be self-reliance, be a hard-working and be volunteerism. I have just realized that the fact America is good figure for me to make my future will be better
5. Yes, it does. Before I learn this subject, I thought if American culture is not good, as most people call it “west culture”, as they know that west culture is not good to emulate it. But the fact, America has many values and beliefs that important for us to emulate such as competition, self-discipline, hard-working, volunteerism, freedom and etc. It helps my culture to be better than yesterday. I believe that by American culture, I have changed my mindset. For example, now I do hard-working to get my target.
6. Yes, by this subject I can know the way to manage my time, the way to manage my mindset Where American has over confident to reach a goal. I really thank to Mr.parlin that has taught me about CCU. I get many inspirations from this subject. For example, if I be a teacher someday, I will teach to my students to be self-reliance, hard-working, self-discipline, and volunteerism. I will give them opportunity in argued.
7. Yes, of course. Because by studying this subject (CCU) I can know a lot of their culture, so it’s very easy for me to adapt and to make a relation with them. Moreover, I can also understand the way they communicate or speak. This subject very helps me easier to adapt with them, so there is no misunderstanding in communication with them.
8. Yes, I agree with that. Because by knowing a lot of knowledge about American culture, it makes easier to me if someday I come to America and stay there. There is no doubt for me to communicate well with them and it will be easier for me to adapt with them. There is no misunderstanding in communication between me and them.
PART II: Perception and Reflection
1. Yes, it does. CCU class gives me language skills. Studying a culture which differs in many aspects with my own culture is interesting. The subject does not only enrich my knowledge about Americans but also provides me opportunities to develop my language skills, especially speaking and writing. The discussion activities, especially those held in groups, require active speaking. Moreover enrich my knowledge about culture and my language skill, especially reading can also increase my vocabulary.
2. Reading. CCU class the most contributed for me is Reading skill and I can also increase my vocabulary, it also provides me opportunities to develop my language skill, especially reading. Because studying cultural is very interesting for me. Because I can get more about culture, especially America culture. There are many positive things that I have got by reading for example the way they do competition with each other. By reading I can improve my mindset through America culture because I do respond positive their culture.
3. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about American culture awareness in America is a thing of the past. There are so many different cultures and so little understanding in America that we are just one big melting pot, whether we like it or not. Example of awareness about American culture is this is why America is going through the social and economical changes we are today, we are encouraged to have the ability to overlook certain aspects of culture.
4. Yes! CCU class helps me raise my awareness about my own culture. There are many things that I have to learn from America culture. Before I learned CCU, I have not known about culture of America. But now, I get a lot of knowledge about their culture and I need to improve my culture to be better. The important things that i have to change are my self-disciplines, self-reliance, and hard-working. I’ve just realized that this is very important for me to make my future will be successful.
5. Yes! CCU class changed my perception of American culture. American migrant’s tough, independent, so one wants to be successful must work hard to get satisfactory results. For example, want to get good grades or satisfactory must learn and keep working hard. Before I learned CCU, I thought that America culture was not good for me to learn and to emulate, but the fact I was wrong. For example, though that they did not practice their religion, but I was wrong, the fact America is religious peoples.
6. Yes! Because teachers also need to know about the CCU primarily about American countries. And the U.S. also makes the motivation for teachers. For example, Americans have always worked hard and they believe that people should have jobs. Teachers teach the kids a hard worker as well as children with full responsibility and patience and teacher also get motivation by studying CCU class that is motivation to make students will be a self-reliance and hard-working.
7. Yes, of course! Because, if we have learned and understood this subject (CCU). It would make me easier to communicate with Americans, because I have got a lot of knowledge about America culture by learning this subject. There is no doubt for me to learn many things, especially in cultures. For example, the way they think, the way they speak. It is important for me to learn more and more about this.
8. Yes! After learning cross cultural understanding, I can know the way they speak and communicate. It is very helpful me to adapt with American people. Someday if go there and stay there, I do not need to be ashamed to communicate with them because I have got much knowledge about their culture, so it is easier to me for adapting.

1. Yes, it does.
The CCU class contributes my language skill in listening, reading, and writing. But the big contribution is in my speaking skills. CCU class gives me the new thought about American Culture. By learning CCU I know that there are so many special things in America which I never know, like the traditional values and beliefs which can be emulated with us, Indonesians.
2. CCU class contributes me most in speaking skills. Before I learn it, I feel ashame when I’m going to express my thought to others. Because Americans are brave people, I want to be like them, be brave to express my thought in speaking. Although I still make mistakes, i never give up to try again.
3. Yes, it does.
In the past, before I have learnt American Culture, I do not know if Americans do not have any vacations day. I cannot imagine if Indonesians do the same thing? There must be a national demonstration.
4. Yes, it does.
When I study about American Culture, I remember with my own culture and I want to know it deeper than before. Honestly, until now, I still do not know my own culture yet. But when my lecturer asked all of the students in CCU class about our own culture, I know it much more.
5. Yes, it does.
Yesterday, I just know that Americans do what they want to do. Because individual freedom is valued in there, as I always watch in American movies, that is what I think of them. But now, my thought is wrong. Americans still have so many good values and beliefs that I never know.

When we teach our students, we need not only the linguistics knowledge, but also the culture knowledge of the country which we learn.

If I meet Americans, I can ask them deeper about their culture. I also know how the way I must speak with them.
8. If yesterday I said NO Sir, and you suggest me to change my thought. Now I know what I thought yesterday is wrong. I cannot generalize it to the whole parts in our lives. As you said so, there are some people who still practice the theory correctly, and you know Sir, I will be one of them. So, by learning CCU, and if I have an opportunity to go to America, I will apply what I have learnt.
