Abstract
Various studies have shown that the small group discussion (SGD) technique is very effective to facilitate reflection, develop students’ engagement and confidence, and increase comprehension. This action research was conducted to improve students’ reading comprehension by implementing the small group discussion (SGD) technique and to investigate their perception of reading and the use of SGD. The participants were 25 tenth grade students of SMK 17 Agustus 1945 Jakarta. The action research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle was carried out in five 100-minutes sessions. To collect data, two sets of test, observation sheets, and two questionnaires were employed. The results showed that SGD improved students reading comprehension.
