    Differences Between University And School

In recent years, although tertiary education is certainly popular among Hong Kong students. It is unlikely that all students can easily catch the ways of studying at starting university. Therefore, we need to know actually what great differences between studying at university and school in order to adjust our ways of studying more effective to achieve the tertiary education. In this essay, I will try to examine their differences in terms of the characteristic of teachers and students, students time management and motivation as well as the modes of assessment

Firstly, the characteristic of teachers and students in school and at university has great differences. The school teachers dismantle to translate the textbooks word-by-word from limited information-based, and whether the students understand the lessons or not, they can passively copy down the information and refers to their notes later at home and memorizes them. However, the university students are no longer allowed to sit quietly and negatively throughout the class. They are being demanded to discuss academic matters or cooperate with other classmate to perform projects. They are require to find sources, gathering information and put them into order. As Marshall and Rowland (1993, 34) pointed out in their essay , ¡¥the ability to think critically is a generic skill that are expected to acquire in the undergraduate education and transfer to daily life, future or current work.¡¦ Therefore, the tutors at university who offer not only textbook instructions but also helps students to think critically and independently by encouragement. Besides, students can choose and adjust their own learning style independently from freely choices of materials provided at university.

Another important difference in students time management that is mainly affected by the learners motivation in school and at university. The motivation of school students is comes from parents and teachers, who reward or punish students for keeping up their studies. Students are unexpected to plan or do anything besides follow the timetable and study schedule from teachers. When a student moves on to undertake university study at undergraduate level, there is demanded to be more self-motivated and independent learning. Such as plan a learning programme that takes into consideration time available for study. As Marshall and Rowland (1993, 41) shown in their essay that, ¡¥if students are studying at a distance in tertiary education are needed to be particularly careful in setting priorities and balance a certain time between work and study, family and social life.¡¦ It is important to manage time efficiently to achieve satisfactory results.

The final difference point in assessment procedures. In school, students are judged largely on the grades they achieve in examinations for gaining admission to higher education. On the other hand, university students are judged mainly on their continuously assessed course work, not only by their performances in examinations.

In this essay, I have attempted to identify and explain how great differences between studying in school and at university in terms of teaching and learning style, students¡¦ motivation and time management, and the modes of assessment. I found that when students moves on to undertake the tertiary education. This means, they has reached adulthood and becomes an independent and self-motivated learners. They should accommodate the suitable learning style and good time management for themselves to achieve the satisfactory results. Marshall and Rowland (1993, 41) described in their essay that, ¡¥each discipline or body of knowledge is a culture in its own right with its own discourse ¡V its own language and vocabulary and its own methodologies for choosing, analysing, critiquing, interpreting, presenting and using this knowledge. Thus, when start tertiary study enter not only the overall culture of the institution but the culture of the discipline in which are intend to study.¡¦ Independence and the exercise of initiative are both essential qualities in a good university student.

Every Singleness Happens For A Reason

“Every woman’s dream is to get married.” That was a statement that came out of my friend when we were in a conversation with some other friends on a Saturday at the canteen. I actually didn’t really remember what brought the “women’s dream” topic up. I was just surprised because who said that statement was a man. It seemed like he knew women better than the women themselves. Thinking about it makes me wonder if it’s true that getting married is a dream of every woman, including me. Because if someone asks me now what my dream is; I just want to leave this country, go to the Maldives, and live there, happily ever after. Never think about marriage, at least for now. So, if my friend’s theory was true, why we still find unmarried women who do not really mind with their status. Was it their choice not to marry or maybe being single was not something that they wanted at first? I will not judge anyone in here or criticize whether being single is a right choice or not. I am just a strong believer that there must be some reasons behind their decision not to get married, and these following reasons may explain the situation.

Being trauma of a previous bad relationship is the first reason. They are single because they met wrong person. It is quite serious and reasonable; divorce or breakup has to be a bit traumatizing. Women who had this experience tend to avoid involving a new love relationship. In other words, it is hard to move on. They have an argument that they need time to recover and move on. In many cases, we often meet women, who got divorced, never want to marry again because they feel more happy and comfortable when they are single again. Getting in a new relationship just bring a new problem and fear for them. We just have to wait them open their heart again after recovering from the psychological trauma and move on.

The next excuse why women choose to stay single is that their career or study is their number one priority above everything. I know it sounds cliché, and it usually happens to some modern ambitious independent women who want to pursue success in their career or study. Thus, make them argue that they do not want some things like; love, marriage, commitment, husband, or babies distract them. In a selfish way, sometimes their behavior makes their love partner -if they have the one- disappointed because they seem not to want to be tied in a next step serious relationship. This is also strange, considering that in some other cases the men are generally the ones who do not want to involve in a long term serious relationship/ commitment. Well, times have changed as well as the people’s perception.

Still looking for Mr. Perfect is another reason for staying single. Of course, nobody is perfect, but we cannot deny that every woman wants to be with someone that they want and they have their own standards for figuring their future husband or boyfriend. So, maybe this is about the perfectness in their own concept. Like some anon saying; “It’s better to be single with standards than in a relationship settling for less”. But the problem is that finding the right guy is not as easy as falling off a log. If you are lucky enough, you will find your right guy before too long. Then, if you haven’t found someone whom you are looking for, according to your standards –or maybe we can say “your wishes”- for how longer you want to be single? Only the woman herself knows the answer.

Then, the last reason for women to stay single because they are nuns. I am not kidding. This can be a strong reason for being single. They do have a commitment, but a commitment with God not the other guy. When the women decide to dedicate their life serving God and others with becoming sisters, they have to accept the requirement that they cannot marry for the rest of their life. It aims to make them focus on serving others and the deaconess. They also have to live in full of reflective and be more religious. For them, becoming nuns is a calling and we have to respect their decision.

All those things written above are just a few reasons to make women decide to stay single, but they are enough to make us understand and respect the single women. Our society may create a bad assumption of unmarried women, but getting married or not is human rights. While it is true that most of single women want to take a vow with someone they love one day, but not a few of them happy with their singleness. However, being single women is not a bad thing. In fact, many single women live her life to the fullest and become success on chasing her dreams. The others have got married and started families which made some kind of prove that marriage worked out. Just as everything happens for a reason so does your singleness. It comes to be the woman’s own decision. You know your own life because you are who run it. You know when you are ready for a marriage or not. You know if you are ready to get married or not. If being single is the best for you, just enjoy it.

    Traffic Jams

Modern city is facing complex transportation problem especially Jakarta, bandung and Surabaya. Each the city must serve about 8-12 million people during the day and more or least 5-120 million at night. Every day we are faced with congestion and the traffic get worse when it rains, which is sparkled by flooding along many of the city’s throughfares. in this writing I want to share Traffic Jams in Jakarta. According to statement by the governor of Jakarta there are at least 138 new cars entering the city’s street (jakarta) every day. Traffic jams are increasing. The number of vehicles increase constantly and now stands at about 4,7 million, with around 1,3 million private car, yet private cars carry only about 15 percent of all travelers.

It is now one of the most frequently asked questions : “does the new Jakarta administration have an effective method to ease traffic?”. The answer is that not only one, but four methods would be applied at the same time to reduce the capital’s gridlock problem by 40 percent, by 2014 an increase in taxes on private vehicles and registration fees is one option the city’s official may consider. Meanwhile, Indonesia (the goverment) is now producing its own cars (a cheap cars), that will add the problem and any Indonesian rich enough to operate a car will be able to afford the usage fees, how come!

Let us not immediately come to a conclution, but rather investigate the root of problem. The city administration plans to introduce electronic road pricing (ERD) and higher taxes for those who want to buy a second car to curb the growth of car ownership. But how about this? The automotive industry has to share the responsibility to ease traffic congestions : not just selling car but playing its part in easing the problem. Through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, they may need to build new roads or perhaps expand the road that already exist. All of them, for example , have to contruct a new 5-kilometer strip of road each year. This way it will not only aid to ease traffic but it will help the city economy.

Second, the busway should be used optimally. Currently many of them are not used effectively as they are empty while other learns are pocked. Therefore , other modes of public transportation mikrolet, kopaja, taxi, etc. should be allowed to use the busway lanes the operator should modify their buses so that they can run along busway corridors.

Third, much of the City is over – developed. So the government should not grant licenses for new high-rise apartements in areas where such buildings already exist. Licenses should not be given to develop malls or apartement or townhouses or bussiness districts in areas that already suffer from over – crowding.

Fourth, traffic lights have to perform well, the time of red and green lights have to be adjusted precisely based on traffic density.

And fifth, there are too many “Vips” who are escorted by police officers that worsen traffic anytime they drive along certain roads. We have to stop it except in emergency situations – not for their routine trips

Finally, each of us road users must be disciplined while driving whith such behavior, no external control is needed

    Stability of interracial marriages

Research that has been carried out found out that in the United States the divorce rates between mixed couples is much lower than white couple’s union (Root, 2001). This is so because the interracial marriages do face fewer conflicts than other types of marriage. The difference between the couple makes them alert on the need to foster strong bonds between themselves. This and the good network of encouraging people, who share the same ideology, help the couple through any adversity. Their sophisticated mechanism of settling calamities has done well to market mixed race marriages as stable (Botham, 2009).

Type of people in interracial marriages

People known to marry interracially are mostly; well educated, they have stable careers, some of them are advanced in age or either follows a precedence set in the family by another couple. The society might view them either as people out on an adventure, or either rebels or divorcees of failed first marriages. In relation to adventurer this is the type of person who is looking to do something out of the norm. Hence race, religion or traditions do not hinder them rather interest them. Rebels are viewed as people who go against their racial beliefs hence venturing out on their own path (Botham, 2009).

    Challenges

Interracial marriages do offer some challenges which if tackled well may strengthen the bond between the couple or may weaken it. Some of the challenges include the roles to be played by the man and the woman. These tend to differ between different races. For example an African man might have been socialized to know that the kitchen is a woman’s domain. The same might not be true for another race. Another example is the values that each might share (Root, 2001). To one material possession might be seen as important while to another land or owning a home might be the most important thing.

Food might also be a potential issue in an interracial marriage. For example in the Middle East super is served as early as 4pm, while in the western world it is served at night. Sex also can come in as a potential challenge. Some races do put emphasis on chastity insisting a woman has to be a virgin, while in other places like the United States sex is a self choice once someone hits eighteen years old. In some culture’s adoption of children is not a big issue while to a man from Africa one’s own children are considered of higher value (Root, 2001).

    Positive things on interracial marriages

However on the brighter side interracial marriages do offer one the opportunity to obtain the best out of diversity. It is a learning experience where one can demystify and understand another race. Healthy cultural practices may be acquired and some new formed for the mixed race. The transfer of genetically acquired diseases may be minimized when people from different cultures do meet. For example Canavan disease, Gaucher disease type1 or Cystic fibrosis are some of the genetic diseases associated with the Jewish people. Interracial marriage may do well to contain their spread to the offspring (Elles & Mountford, 2004).

Children born out of interracial marriages tend to be global citizens. They are more tolerant of different cultures and religious practices. These unions provide the world with the chance to put an end to racism and unnecessary hate towards other races. Whether we like it or not the number of mixed race people is on the rise and with it comes a different outlook towards life. For an individual, having the chance to tour and get associated in another country could be a good experience (Botham, 2009). This may provide opportunities for growth especially in business or any other life’s ventures.

    Conclusion

Successful interracial marriages have proved to us that race is just skin deep and that in the innermost part of human beings we are all the same. The genetic mix up that has resulted in more healthy kids also known as gene strengthening has made us aware of the advantages in unity. The world has become a global village and the need to embrace diversity is now a must do for the survival of any ambitious business. How better to learn diversity than to observe interracial marriages? Race is not a problem, neither is the children or history rather the main problem of interracial marriages is the society. The society has evolved and is more receptive to such unions. However I look forward to a day when interracial marriages will be very normal that it won’t attract any media attention.

There are only two real contenders for Indonesia’s 2014 presidential election: Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party chief patron Prabowo Subianto.
All recent polls have placed Jokowi significantly ahead, with Prabowo sitting well behind Jokowi but still far ahead of the other candidates. This places Jokowi in a position of such popularity that if he merely decided to run for president, he would win.

Since 2006, Freedom House scores on political rights and civil liberties have remained the same, with civil liberties even experiencing a slight decline, indicating the stagnation of Indonesian democracy. With extremely low voter turnout as well as corruption continuing to plague all levels of Indonesian bureaucracy, Indonesia needs a leader who can reinvigorate the country’s democracy, free from the restraints of the old Soeharto regime.

Jokowi becoming president this year is important for the future of Indonesia as a democracy. Jokowi may not be the best candidate for the country, but those candidates who are do not stand a chance against Prabowo to win the presidency. And it is important for the future of Indonesia that Prabowo does not become president.

Criticisms of Jokowi’s nomination for president are primarily formed on his lack of experience at a national level, especially in terms of foreign affairs. But Jokowi’s experience in Jakarta, despite being short, will form a good basis for his presidency. The population of Jakarta equals the size of a small nation, and the problems found in Jakarta are reflected throughout the archipelago.
In terms of foreign relations, Jokowi will quickly learn the ropes and his leadership in this area will be much more easily satisfied than if Prabowo was to become president, which would lead to a foreign affairs mess for Indonesia.

The primary reason for supporting Jokowi’s presidential nomination is the high likelihood that if Jokowi does not run, then Prabowo will win. This would be a disaster for Indonesia’s international relations and for its democracy. Prabowo was the first person to be put on a blacklist of people banned from entering the United States over allegations of human rights violations. He has also been told that he would be denied entry to a number of other countries, including Australia.

His power, ability, continued closeness with the military and close links with the Soeharto regime would make his presidency a huge step backward for Indonesia.
Indonesia’s elite politicians are still trying to halt the development of democracy and their control over the government remains significant. This has the power to destroy what is arguably the most successful transition to democracy in a majority-Muslim country.
The success of the transition to democracy came in part from cooperation from the political elite which has allowed Soeharto-era elites, like Prabowo, to maintain their stranglehold over the Indonesian government. Although Jokowi is an elite politician, he does not act as one; nor is he considered an “elite” in the eyes the people.

Jokowi’s current track record, emphasizing democratic values and participatory democracy based on good governance, would make his presidency far more preferable. Jokowi has the power to get people interested and involved in politics; again, something that is important for Indonesia’s future. Jokowi has also proved his capability to make difficult decisions for the country’s development toward becoming a strong democracy.

I am just an common people who want to express a little about a figure of Jokowi and why you should vote him to become president of Indonesia. Jokowi is a sensational figure, there are at least 3 reason why you should choose and support Jokowi as the president of Indonesia.

the first and foremost is Jokowi is free of corruption, unlike any other candidates that have some problems with Indonesian Corruption Watch.according to their level of corruption as perceived by surveys of both domestic and foreign observers.

The second reason is because he is close to the people. Jokowi is a leader who can easily be found by the people and he also often go into the field to meet the citizen. when the curb traders are being relocated, Jokowi go down directly into the field and meet the curb traders. He discussed with them, the traders also feel respected by the Government, and willing to be relocated. I never heard any other of government go to the field when controlling curb traders.
another evidences that Jokowi is closer to the people is he continuously controlling his people, especially the poor. Jokowi often gives a little help like food supplies or money especially for the oldies. you can ask the Solo citizen and they also would say so.

The third reason is because Jokowi is Pro with the minority, if you still remember the case about Bibit vs Jokowi ?. Where Jokowi opposite to the construction of a new shopping mall because it will hurt the tiny traders. Moreover the poor solo citizen get the health card so that the poor people can treated for free.
I think these reasons is enough to make us all to choose as the president of Indonesia, althought actually ther are many other reasons that many other reasons that can further assure you.

Joko Widodo is a public figure who is always preferred by many people, especially residents of Surakarta. Joko Widodo who nicknamed this Jokowi, was once just a furniture businessman. Much appreciation Jokowi obtained among others Joko Widodo was elected as one of “10 People of 2008” being the best mayor in 2009 , Joko Widodo awarded Bung Hatta Award, for his leadership and performance during the build and lead the city of Solo , University of March Surakarta (UNS) Award . Jokowi immediately dismiss .Once the system was running was not hard to do, and so far going well .Price is not expensive ID card only Rp.5000. This is done so that all citizens who need ID cards can be immediately used for the upper ,middle and lower.

Jokowi knows what is needed by the citizens. As a leader should be able to understand people and want to work hard for the welfare of the citizens instead for himself.

    1. Who is Joko Widodo?

Joko Widodo is a favorite mayor, who is always loved by many people. He is called Jokowi. Long time ago, he was just a furniture businessman. Traffic Jam

Traffic jam is a complex problem. Traffic Jam not yet get the right solution from the government. Traffic jam does not only occur in Indonesia but also in some countries such as Australia, China, United States, and others. Traffic Jam is not a new thing in Jakarta. Traffic jam occur on a weekdays from Monday to Friday and has become a regular thing. Since I was in junior high school in Cipinang Indah until today I always meet with the congestion. Now, I work in Tangerang. From Monday to Friday, I leave home at 04:30 a.m. I should arrive at Pasar Rebo at 05.00 a.m to get the first bus or at the latest 5:15 a.m for the second bus because the second bus will leave Pasar Rebo at 05:20 am. If I pass 5:20 a.m then I would be late and got bogged down in BSD and Serpong. Congestion is very annoying when we go to work, attend the meeting or other important things that takes time. Especially during the rain. We can avoid the congestion if we want to try the several things:

First, come to the office earlier. Jakarta starts crowded at 05:30 a.m with varying activity, workers, students, merchants, public transport and private vehicles.

Second, use public transportation. The advantage is can make us more secure, comfortable, we can read, relax or get to sleep on the bus or public transport. If we use public transport then private vehicle will reduce and minimize the traffic jam. It is more convenient when we use private vehicles and more quickly to get the destination but it can reduce the congestion. Congestion also occurs because too many private vehicles and motorcycles.

Third, Everyone must obey the traffic rules on the highway. Be patient and not speeding. It can avoid us from the accident.

Traffic jam can be caused due to the lack of parking space and a place to trade. They take the sidewalk to vend and parking.

Traffic jam makes us stress, dizzy, tired, bored and wasting time. This should be a concern for the government. We can try and start from now. Go to work early, use public transportation and obey the traffic rules.

When we commitment to do it – a good thing and a positive influence then we can also influence the others to do the same thing. We hope that the government can find the right solution to the traffic jam problem as soon as possible.

    1. Revision :

      Traffic Jam

Traffic jam is a complex problem. Traffic Jam does not yet get the right solution from the government. Traffic jam does not only occur in Indonesia but also in some countries such as Australia, China, United States, and others. Traffic Jam is not a new in Jakarta and occurs regularly on a weekdays from Monday to Friday. Since I was in junior high school in Cipinang Indah until today I always meet with the congestion. I can’t believe it. Congestion is very annoying. It makes us stress, dizzy, tired, bored and wasting time. Especially when it is raining. We can avoid the congestion by doing three things.

First, go to the office earlier. Jakarta starts to be crowded at 05:30 a.m with varying activities, workers, students, hawkers, public transportation and private vehicles on the streets. The advantages are the streets still silent, the bus still empty, we arrive in the office before the work time and we can have a breakfast. Indeed, we can attend the quiet time, prepare and make a list some works to do.

Second, use public transportation. Why don’t we start taking a bus? It’s cheaper. We don’t have to spend our money to pay gas and toll fees. It gives us feeling secure, comfortable and relax. You can sleep, read or listen to the music. It is up to you. The other side use private vehicles is more convinient and more quickly to get the destination but it can reduce the congestion. Congestion also occurs because too many private vehicles and motorcycles.

Third, everyone must obey the traffic rules on the streets. They have to be conscious, patient and not speeding. The reckless drivers cut in whatever they want and sometimes they drive with a great speed. It can caused the accident. They don’t use their lane also. Traffic jam can be caused the lack of parking space and a place to trade. They park their vehicles on the roadside and the hawkers are all in the middle of the sidewalk.

Doing the three things can help us avoid the traffic jam. Go to work early, use public transportation and obey the traffic rules. You can try the other way like try the alternative routes or check traffic reports before you leave. Traffic updates are available on the radio or twitter. We can do a lot to reduce this problem. We hope that the government can find the right solution to the traffic jam problem as soon as possible.

    Traffic jam

Traffic jam very often we experience, especially Jakarta residents living areas. Traffic jam is a big trouble in Jakarta, we always listen about traffic jam, but we often don’t care about that.
Traffic jam is also not a new problem for us,not only for government but our task now is how to reduce the Traffic jam itself, because if only the government its not solve the problem.
Often we are less aware of the cause of the traffic jam.
Though traffic jam that occurs because we are less conscious.
Sometimes someone used a car to go to work, shopping, or go to another place although the people in the car only one until three, even though the government has facility public transportation for us.
However For the start of ourselves to reduce traffic jam , we are trying to reduce traffic jam in Jakarta.
Many ways we can do for example as we use public transportation.
With our used of public transport, the least traffic jam would be reduced, besides we can reduce traffic jam, we can also save our money. easy but it is difficult for us to practice, and therefore we have to start from now.
So if we have the will to reduce traffic jam, we should start from ourselves and not postpone it, so Jakarta not be bogged down again now like to be free and not waste time because the jammed, and traffic jam will be resolved.

    TRAFFIC JAM

Traffic jam is a long line of vehicles in which many vehicles get stuck in jam. It is one of the major problems of city life. It occurs in big cities and towns. There are many causes of traffic jam. The main cause of traffic jam is the narrowness of roads in proportion to the large number of vehicles.

The main cause of traffic jam is the narrowness of roads in proportion to the large number of vehicles. Our vehicles have increased but our roads have not increased. The numbers of unlicensed vehicles are increasing day by day. The drivers have little knowledge about traffic rules. The number of traffic police is insufficient.´

Parking here and there and overtaking tendency are also the cause of occurring traffic jam. It brings great suffering to us. It kills our valuable time. We can not reach school, college, office and hospital in time. Sometimes ambulance and fire brigade can not go hurry up due to traffic jam.

However, this problem should be solved. The number of roads should be increased. Sufficient traffic police should be posted in important places. Traffic rules should also be imposed with an iron hand. Unlicensed vehicles should be removed. Drivers have to be conscious about traffic rules and regulations.

Last but not least, moving some huge industries outskirts of cities would be recognized as an effective way to reduce traffic jam. Since they have employed many employees in their factories or companies, and as they should commute to their work in almost a certain time, they could create congest movement of vehicles in cities. This could be to some extent solved through transferring such industries to outside of urban areas. To sum up, traffic jam is causing worldwide concern. Some measure as mentioned above could be taken to reduce the amount of high density traffic.

    Jokowi for President?

The election’s day is coming, and most of Indonesians are not ready to vote for the president. The candidates were not acceptable not until Jokowi announced to the public through social media about his willingness to become a candidate for Indonesian presidential election in 2014. With this spectacular news, it seems like indonesia has a new hope. Everybody started to put their hope in this person called Jokowi. I liked him as a Jakarta governor, because he did a hard work to make Jakarta looks better. He has followed the practice (known as blusukan) of regularly arranging well-publicized visits to local communities, often in quite poor areas, across Jakarta. This blusukan culture has been built when he was a governor in Solo. People like it, but, when he announced his willingness to become a president of Indonesia, pros and cons ensued. He did a good job as a governor, but that not means that he worth enough to become a president of a nation. His accountability must be questioned.

First, he was a governor of Solo. He did a fantastic job at his period as a Solo governor. He built new traditional markets, he built public transportation in the form of double-decker buses and the railbus. He did so many good things just in one year. People amazed with the way he works, amazed with his leadership. When people still amazed with his works, he left them and went to Jakarta. He did not finish his tenure in Solo . He chose to become Jakarta governor instead countinued his work in Solo. This attitude makes people doubt about his responsibility.

Second, he is a governor of Jakarta. He started his work with blusukan to everywhere, He checked drainage by himself when flood happened. He tried his best to solve the traffic jam and the flood that happened in Jakarta. People started to give compliments to him. Now, the presidential election is coming. Many people wanted him to be a president. But he always ignored it and always smiled by the question about his willingness to become a candidate. Just a few weeks ago the public was surprised by his announcement. He is ready to become a president. Now, people are arguing about that, some people agree, some people not agree. The same situation is happening again. He is going to leave his tenure as a Jakarta governor. He is going to leave his responsibility.

The question is do you think that he is a good leader after what had happened? Is he a responsible person? Maybe he has many good ways to solve the problems in Solo and Jakarta, but when we talked about Indonesia as a nation, I don’t think that Jokowi is a good leader. The same taught is always come to my mind about his responsible. Some of people even think that it was his and his party drama, they have set up everything. Jokowi gives good impression for the society and good image for the community, so people will naturally like him. When it does, the way become a president is easy to reach. Jokowi is a politician just like others politician, who just want to have power in his position.

Dear Mr.Pardede,I have changed the topic.

      Vote Jokowi for President?

The election’s day is coming. People are enthusiast about this year election, because Jokowi announced to the public through social media about his willingness to become a candidate for Indonesian presidential election in 2014. With this spectacular news, it seems like Indonesia has a new hope. Everybody started to put their hopes in this person called Jokowi, as well as me. I like him as a Jakarta governor, because he did a hard work to make Jakarta better. Many people amazed by his and his team’s work. Even though, pros and cons ensued when he announced his willingness to become a president of Indonesia.

The pros support him because he did fantastic work when he was a mayor in Solo. He rebranded Surakarta as a center of Javanese culture and tourism under the tagline “The Spirit of Java”. He promoted the city as a center for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE). He also built public transportation in the form of double-decker buses and the rail buses. As a governor of Jakarta, he has followed the practice (known as blusukan) of regularly arranging well-publicized visits to local communities, often in quite poor areas, across Jakarta. This blusukan culture has been built when he was a mayor in Solo. Just in one year he could get attention from the public in Indonesia and also from other countries. His name listed in famous magazine as one of the greatest leader in the world. Those are some reasons why the pros believe that Indonesia would be better if Jokowi were the president. As a president, he will have bigger power to control and to manage all the cities in Indonesia.

The cons do not think so. They think that the media was helping him building the good image of him .They also believe that Jokowi does not have the power to build new Indonesia. First, he left his tenure in Solo and became a governor in Jakarta. Second, he is going to leave Jakarta and become a president of Indonesia. As a leader, he should be responsible for his work until the tenure ends. His party and he had been prepared all things to get attention from public. They had set up his way to become a president. His “blusukan” culture is one of the way to get attention from public and so that the public amazed with his good image. They also said that no difference between Jokowi and SBY (president Indonesia) who was also used good image to get attention from public. As you can see now that SBY did not give his best to make Indonesia better. Jokowi is a politician, the same like other politician who just think about power and position.

Pros and cons in political world had happened a lot. Even though, as a good citizen we should know who will give his best for this country. Well, for me it does not matter who will be the president, the important one is the president has the ability to lead Indonesia out from corruption and misery. A good leader should put his people in front, go directly to the society, has some discussions with them, listen to their needs and try to give the best solution. For me, Jokowi has those criteria’s to become a good president. Indonesians are smarter; they can judge the candidates through their works. They can choose the best candidate to lead Indonesia. So, will I vote Jokowi for the president? My answer is yes, I will.

  16. Traveling

Actually travelling is my favorite activities, because when I go around in the new place, I can know that something I don’t know before.
Now I want to tell a little about my traveling at Yogyakarta when I have long holiday.
I visited in Yogyakarta at Monday, first impression when I visited Yogyakarta very surprised because this is my first time in Yogyakarta.
Yogyakarta has a beautiful beach, have much store and a special food.

First I want to tell you about beautiful beach in Yogyakarta, I’m already see many beach in south beach and all off the beach have a good panorama ,but I have one beautiful beach that can’t forget.
The name of the beach is Baron Beach, the beach have nature atmosphere, and we can climb the ladder so we can see all of the beach of the top and we can listen melody wave and is it make the visitor comfortable.

The second in Yogyakarta we can see arranged in store and we can buy anything as fast we have money, and in Yogyakarta more a cheap than in Jakarta specially Batik.
If we buy clothing in Yogyakarta we don’t regret it, because the price more a cheap.

The last is special food, we can taste kind of food specially at the night, we can taste special food in Yogyakarta is gudek, and have sweet sensation like people in Yogyakarta,
And another food is pecel, in Jakarta we often taste like pecel, but if we eat pecel in Yogyakarta we have plus because the situation its very nice, and actually the food a cheap more than another place.

So we don’t regret if we visited Yogyakarta, because we certain satisfied with beautiful beach, arranged store with a cheap price, kind off food, and another that you can find in Yogyakarta.

  17. Gita Sagita/ 1212150006

I do enjoy watching traveling television programs, recently. The programs can make me feel the host’s excitement when he visit some beautiful destination spots, although I just watch it and don’t even move a little bit from my couch. I also like to read a book or an article about traveling, and from them. I got several things about traveling.
As an Indonesian, it would be cool if you could get to a holiday destination across the world, getting a chance on holiday abroad. But, sometimes we don’t realize that in Indonesia itself –with consisting of 17,508 islands- definitely, there are many beautiful places in Indonesia with their own fascination, haven’t known before. Like me, I never heard about Derawan islands before, the other beautiful islands destination in central Indonesia, East Kalimantan. I knew it from one of traveling TV Program in local channel. It’s best known as a paradise for divers all over the world because of its amazing underwater life. How come people from another country know about it, but me?. Well, my fault. Hence it, now, I believe there’re still many more beautiful places in Indonesia for our new holiday destination, as long as we more concern about it, so not only Bali.
For many travelers, cost is the most important aspect of the trip. Yeah, but traveling doesn’t always spend much money. Many of travelers with only their backpack and a little money can travel to many places. Believe or not. Trinity, a writer of Naked Traveler, and also a backpacker, has proved it. I was so surprised when I knew that for the first time, but it makes sense if you as a traveler or a backpacker, especially, know some tricks for having cheap traveling and it needs “the creativity” of the traveler. Yes, literally and figuratively, the creativity to have delicious culinary, accommodation, and everything in your trip with low cost.
As a conclusion, it will best for you who wants to travel to determine your destination. Some places in our country also can be a good destination, just find out the new one. You also have to find out the best way to have an economical trip and maybe you want to try as a backpacker. So, let’s get a travel to gain our experience and escape from our busy days for a while.

    1. Dear Gita,
First of all, I don’t see your thesis sentence. If the last sentence of paragraph 1, running “I also like to read a book or an article about traveling, and from them I got several things about traveling” is meant to be the thesis, then in the body paragraphs you should have discussed about “things about traveling you got from the book and article”
If you really want to explain that the first thing you got from those reading materials is the realization that Indonesia has so many beautiful places to visit, then you should start paragraph 2 with a topic sentence, like:

The first thing I learned from the books and article is that Indonesia has so many beautiful places, which are not less attractive to visit than the popular places in other countries. (in the following sentences, support this idea with relevant facts, arguments or description).

Then the third paragraph might have been begun like this:

The second important thing I learned is that although money is an important matter in traveling, some travelings do not cost much. (Then, support this idea with relevant facts, arguments, etc.)

Another point to remember is the necessity to be careful with your sentences. Look at the following as an example:

I also like to read a book or an article about traveling, and from them. I got several things about traveling.

This is better to rewrite like this:

I also like to read a book or an article about traveling, and from them I got several things about traveling.

    TRAVELLING
Everyone has their dream to travel any destination . Planning for travelling is usually long in making to ensure I am enjoyable, unforgettable, and successful. This is the reason why I like travelling to some city and countries .
I like to travelling to Bandung as my destination because I like “Kuliner Wisata”. Some street in Bandung are especially know for restaurant and FO (factory outlet) such as Jl. Dago or Pasir Kaliki in central Bandung which are lined with FO and Resto. The restaurant is filled with people from another city. People are commond along table in front of the stall while waiter and waitress compete with conversation to greet new customer and shout orders to their follow standing in readiness at the back of the glass stall.
I like travelling to Jogjakarta. The Jogjakarta is not paying serious attention to developing the potential village tourist, that could improve people’s well being as well as preserve local traditional values. The tourism industry in Jogjakarta also still focus on culture originating from The Ageng Traditional (The Ageng tradition comprises custom that take place in Jogjakarta palace). It’s unique I think , even the provincial administration still lacked a grand design for tourism village development. The best think for me is they can protect their own cultural values.
Like many other tourists, I think that Bali is a different place to Indonesia. Some Indonesians love Bali because they say it’s like going overseas, only the language and the money are some. I think Bali is a good experience for travelling
And the last for my travelling ,I dream of visiting several countries in Europe. The reason behind visiting those countries is that, apart to try my language, I think these countries are unique and possess their own unique cultures. I usually start by browsing in internet, searching for places of interest that exist in the respective country , then I choose places that are typical features of that country .

    1. Hello Mr. Gandi’
To discuss your essay, let’s begin with grammar and logic.

      1) Everyone has their dream to travel [to] any destination.

      2) Planning for travelling is usually long in making [usually takes time] to ensure I [the travel] am [will be] enjoyable, unforgettable, and successful. This is the reason why I like travelling to some city and countries.

[Is it true that the long planning is the reason why you like traveling to some city and countries?]

      3) I like to travelling to Bandung as my destination because I like “Kuliner Wisata”.

      4) Some street[s] in Bandung are especially know[n] for restaurant and FO…

Secondly, I don’t find your thesis sentence. In the body paragraph you explain the reasons why you like to go to Bandung, Jogya, Bali and Europe. Therefore, at the end of the introductory paragraph you should have written a thesis sentence like: “I love traveling to Bandung, Jogya, Bali and Europe because they offer some unique things I like very much”.

    1. Hi Fitriawati,
Here are some comments from me

      1) Be careful with your sentences. This is an example:
It is a [the] place where I was born and I spent my childhood.

      2) Are you sure with the expression, “e[E]very time I return to fart because ….”?

      3) I don’t see a suitable sentence to be used as your thesis sentence. In the body paragraphs you present some description and tips for someone who wants to visit Bangka Belitung. Why don’t you write a thesis sentence concerning these description and thesis?

        TRAVELING

Travelling plays an important role in our education. Our education remains incomplete without travelling.
“Travelling” means going from one place to other places. In ancient times travelling was very difficult and risky because there were no proper roads and transports. A traveler had to pass hills and forests. He had to face the fury of nature, wild beasts, robbers and many other obstacles.
With triumph of science, travelling has now become easy, cheap, quick and pleasant. Due to invention of steamships railways, electricity, motor cars and aeroplanes, our journey from one place to and other place even in abroad has become very easy and comfortable.
Travelling is now regarded as an important part of education. Educational Tours increases our knowledge and new thoughts and ideas grow up in us. The education of man remains incomplete if he does not visit important places of the world. Reading of books only provides man with half knowledge. But travelling with eyes wide open and mind fully gives him full knowledge. Travelling also removes his narrowness and superstitions. It makes a traveler smart and self-reliant. Owing to the fabulous progress in the field of communication, travelling today involves less hazards. Hence, students must take part in educational tours. It is both entertaining and instructing for them.
From Kashmir valley to Kanyakumari and from Kutch to Kalimpong, in the east, our country provides hundreds of places known for architecture, climate, scenery, environment, history, development, industry, culture, music, dance, religion a fauna. Then there are seats of learning, which one may like to visit. Educational tours exposes your mind to the diverse cultures of India. The feeling of Unity in Diversity and Communal Harmony takes birth through educational tours.
It has been observed that in cities’ students are travelling twice a year either with their respective schools/colleges or with their parents or friends, because there is no financial problem with them, whereas students of village schools are deprived of such travels for their want of money. Government should look into the matter and make arrangement for Education Tours in Village Schools.

    Traveling

Traveling is not my hobby. If I have a chance to go to some places I would like to go to Bali. Bali is a wonderful island. Bali is one of the tourist attractions in Indonesia which is visited by many foreign tourists and local tourists, especially when they are entering the holiday season. There are many interesting things found in Bali such as Kuta Beach, Tanah Lot, Ubud, Legian beach, and Nusa dua. Kuta Beach is my destination. It is strategic place because it is close to the Ngurah Rai airport. Kuta Beach is a beautiful beach and also has a pretty good waves for surfing sports.

Kuta Beach is a tourist place located in south of Denpasar, the capital of Bali, Indonesia. This area is a tourist destination abroad and has become a mainstay tourist island of Bali since the early 70’s. Kuta Beach is often referred to as sunset beach as opposed to Sanur beach. In 2002, there was a bombings occurred in Kuta many victims in the incident and many foreigners who died in the incident. The government built a monument to commemorate the Bali bombing of the event.

There are Interesting places such as many shops, restaurants and places baths and drying herself. Besides the beautiful beach, Kuta Beach also offers various types of entertainment such as bars and restaurants along the beach to Legian Beach. 1. Hello Jolanda,
Please put a thesis sentence at the end of your introductory paragraph. Since you present the special features of Ambon in the body paragraph, you can possibly write your thesis sentence like this,

“Ambon is interesting to visit due to several reasons’.

In addition, be careful with your sentences. Here are two examples:
        1) Ambon has many beautiful beach[es].
        2) Natsepa beach looks clean if we look at the ocean from a distance[.] t[T]he water looks colorful. Many trees around the beach makes the beach feels cool.

  24. Sawarna, a Hidden Treasure Beach

A couple years ago my husband asked me to do a touring trip to Sawarna. I did not know where the Sawarna actually, so I asked him. He said it place in southern Banten area. Indeed, in the middle of nowhere! How we can we get there? “By riding our lovely scooter, in approx 15 hours of joy ride…” with a big smile he answered.

Some our friend decided joining us in this crazy touring. My husband had set everything about the trip. He set the D-day, itinerary, and also accommodation. The away trip to Sawarna was divided into two parts because of the distance was very far. It was about 300 kilometers from Jakarta via Sukabumi. The first part was Jakarta – Sukabumi. We rode from Jakarta on Friday night to Sukabumi. It took about 4-5 hours. We reached Sukabumi at the midnight and took a rest in our internet café. The Second part was Sukabumi – Pelabuhan Ratu – Bayah – Sawarna. This was more than 170 kilometers trip and took another 7 hours. We started our engine in the morning after had taken our breakfast. We took the alternative road to Pelabuhan Ratu, because the main road usually trafficked with trucks and buses. The alternative road is via Cikidang. Contradictive with the boring main road, the view of alternative road was awesome. Up and down hills and mountains, full of winding road, cliffs and canyons on the road side, calm and fresh breeze was all the way. After Pelabuhan Ratu, the road was lies along the coast to Bayah. What a very beautiful of journey.

After 7 hours rode (with several breaktime), we finally reached Sawarna. It is a small village in Bayah District (Kecamatan). Bayah city itself is a small city which only has one Gas Station around and Sawarna located about 10 Km from there. To enter the village, the one and only way is by passing a small suspension bridge, made by cables, metals and woods. No car can enter the village because the sway narrow bridge can only passed by one line motorcycle or people. Our accommodation was not a hotel. It’s just a common villager house, with no bed, only some mattresses. But the host was very welcoming. We fell into a deep sleep that night, because our strength was drained to the lowest level.

Sawarna at the morning was very beautiful. Sound of waves, the sea breeze, and the salt smell, all make our fatigue lost. The sun rose slowly above Indian Ocean. Blue water framed with white sands was everywhere as far as our eyes can see. This was a real hidden treasure. No garbage like in Kuta beach, in fact there were only a few of people in there. This was our private beach! That day, after took a simple villager style breakfast, we played along the beach. Everything was very beautiful. We sang joyful songs, took a lot of photos and enjoyed our holiday. There was no holiday like this before. We spent the day with a very happy feeling. But unfortunately, we should prepare to return to Jakarta before the sun had reached the earth.

The way returning from journey was more interesting. We rode by Cikadang route in the night with slippery wet road after rain and almost no road lamp along the way. We only could saw black everywhere. But God really protected us. About 2 AM next morning we reached Jakarta. We satisfied with our journey to Sawarna – a hidden treasure, what a holiday! 1. Hello Dia,
By definition, an essay is a short piece of writing on a particular subject which usually presents the personal view (arguments) of the author. This means that in an essay you should discuss, explain, or argue to support your view or idea about a subject. That’s why an essay should be in the form of expository writing, not narrative. What you wrote above is merely a story, a narrative. It is not an essay. Please check again the concept and rewrite your assignment.
      Good luck!

    Traveling with Cheap Costs

I have some friends which are traveler. They are incorporated in World Backpacker. They gather every two weeks in a big place with big amount of the members. In that meeting they share some information about traveling. It could be about the price, the place, the right time to go to travel or the story about their last trips. A friend of mine which is one of the active members told me some tips to travel with cheap costs. The tips are: always up date with cheap airlines ticket information, make friend with many people from other countries, and dare to shame.
Up date with cheap airlines ticket information is the most important part to do for backpacker. Become a member from some airplane companies is one of the ways to know that information. Usually, some airplane companies will give discount a year before the flight’s time. If you are a member from the airplane companies, automatically they will inform you about their cheap flights to some places for the next year. It is an advantage for the backpackers, because they have many plenty times to arrange their schedule for next year so they can book the tickets when the time is fit.
The second tip that my friend told me is, making friends with people from another country. This tip is the easiest one. In this technological age, internet is one of the ways to find friends from other countries. We connect with the foreigners by chatting in facebook, follow someone else’s twitter or blog. Chat with them, getting closer day by day, and by itself we become a friend. Joining some cultural seminars is also the way that can help us to find friends from other countries. The advantages of being friend with them are we can stay in their house, try many kinds of traditional foods for free, and we are guided to exciting places. Those advantages will help us save some money when we visit their countries.

Dare to shame is the last tip she told me. Maybe some people will think that is a strange suggestion. But for me, that suggestion makes sense. Sleeping in the airport instead the hotel, bargaining price with high sounds, greedily taking away some free things are the examples of the shameful acts that you might do when you are traveling. If you want to save money when you are traveling, without you realize it you will do those shameful acts.

So, if you are an easy going, a friendly person, liking discount things, interest with other countries’ culture then you are ready to become a traveler. Those tips above might be useful for some people that have the same mind of traveling. Besides enjoying the travel with cheap cost, inadvertently you will learn other countries’ culture and adding your friend’s list.

    1. Hi Zuky,
Your essay has a good structure and the ideas are interesting. To make it better, I suggest you to recheck every sentence for grammatical accuracy, diction suitability, and expression acceptability (don’t use awkward expression).
      Here are some examples:
      1) I have some friends which are traveler [who love travelling].
      2) A friend of mine which is one of the active members told me some tips to travel with cheap costs.

These are merely examples. It’s necessary to check every sentence.

      Good luck!
