  1. We as humans have five senses, namely pengelihat senses, the sense of touch, sense of smell, sense of hearing, and sense of taste. As in the poem mother to son describe a message or a phrase in the suffering of a mother lived her life to her child someday anaknya.supaya got a life full of passion, do not despair. because life really is not easy so we must continue to work hard. A mother who has always wished to live a dark turn into light. Anda mother described to her how life is actually. She says that life is not as beautiful as crystal stair, but life is like tacks in it, and splinters, and boards torn up, and places with no carpet on the floor— bare. It means that life is full of many challenges and sharp stumbling blocks that can pierce of our feet to move. But the mother said she has been a climbing on, reaching landings, and turning corners, it means the mother kept trying in facing and achieving life itself and turn every corner of life even though sometimes going in the dark which sometimes do not shed some light or enlightenment when facing a life. The mother also told to his son that don’t you turn back, don’t you set down on the steps. ‘cause you finds it’s kinder hard. Don’t you fall now for I’se still going, honey, I’se still climbing, the mother wants to tell his son do not ever just be satisfied with what is already owned keep trying and never give up because life is not as crystal stair that we can pass easily.
connotations in this poem, because the writer wants to show us with a dramatic language, such as: “No crystal stair” : life has not been beautiful for the mother. “It had tacks in it /and splinters”: tacks and splinters are hazards that can cause pain. “Boards torn up”: the torn up boards represent damage, obstacles, and hardships in life. “Places with no carpet on the floor / Bare”: these creates the image of being cold, naked and isolated. It creates a mood of loneliness. “I’se been a-climbin’ on”: these two lines push the idea of consistency and endurance in life. “Reachin’ landin’s”: this represents achieving goals in life. “Turnin’ corners”: new things. “Don’t you set down on the steps”: don’t give up. “I’se still goin’, honey / I’se still climbin’”: she is showing her son it can be done and she is the example.
